Why do these mocks say we need PG when we have Lowry/Dragic?

A long, athletic, defensive center, please, with a side of the same kind of small forward. Easy on the sauce.

Yeah I also find it funny that the Rockets 'Need' a point guard.

Lowry may not be Rose or Chris Paul, but he's a definite starter on any team that doesn't have a all-star quality PG and if he plays like he did last season for the full year he will be knocking on the all-star doors.

But if we pick a higher rated PG, he's just going to be rotting on the bench and end up being a trading piece. Lowry is our PG for the future and Dragic is a complementary #2. That position is set.

I know there is the possibility of one of those guys going down, but all we need is an Ish Smith, John Lucas III, etc. type of player to just pass the ball off to the shooters and the big men. I don't think the 3rd PG role will be playing a big role on this team.

I hate all these mock drafts. They assume two things:

    1. the actually draft order
    2. what each team is thinking

Both are never true. So these mocks drafts have very little meaning in terms of predicting which team will get what players.

Why don't they just rank players regardless of teams and needs.

He'll never be better than them to due overall talent and/or athleticism, but he's someone that's reliable and head to head...can even out his opponent. I'm very confident with Lowry against any PG in the league. But I don't mean he's "better" or more "talented", I'm saying that Lowry holds his own and does it a ton of different means; clutch shots, defensively, rebounding wise, incredible effort.

Sounds a lot like what we were saying about Brooks last year.

Looks like my question was asked in Feigen's chat:

    12:42

    Comment From Kevin K
Why do so many mock drafts forget that we have more-than-solid pieces for the future at PG and PF in Lowry and Patterson and keep picking PGs and PFs for us?
    12:43

    Jonathan Feigen:
Because the Rockets will ignore what they have to take the best player they can get. They have done that since Morey has been the general manager.

Hey so I worked up Lowry's post-all star break stats:

    16.8 PPG
    7.3 APG
    9 RPG

That is amazing. While he's not the best of scorers this shows that he is doing other things that help the team like rebounding and assist.

I also agree with Draft Boy that it is likely that he'll never be better than paul/rose/williams but he does hold his own against them. I remember one game last season he dominated and clearly won his matchup against Paul...he's a franchise PG IMO unless you have a superstar ready to replace him.

I'll give you paul and rose. DWill fell off a bit in NJ, but I haven't really watched him that much to say he's still playing at a higher level than Lowry did last year.

Westbrook is a terrible PG, this was evident in the Mavs series. He has the potential to give you 40pts, yea, but as a facilitator/leader...I'd take Lowry.

As for Wall, I only know what I see in highlights so I have no comment on his overall PG play.

Yeah i think he did that with deron too. I think the thing with Lowry that makes me excited is that he seems to be still getting better... like he hasn't reached his full potential yet. Not to mention all the "intangibles" he has.

    Yes that's what yall said.

The rest of us look for more in our players than shooting ability.
