Who will be our set up man now that Miceli is gone? Wheeler had a couple of good outings in the postseason. I also like what the Chads brought to the table. Alot of games will be decided on how quickly we can get the ball in to Lidge's hands with the lead. Who would ya'll like to see as our 8th inning guy? My vote is for Harville.

No way on Harville. It should be either wheeler or qualls.

Its Qualls right now... although Wheeler could get the nod on some nights (I see Dan as being the 7th inning guy).

Also, Garner will not hesitate to bring in Lidge in a situation where the tying or winning run comes up (in the form of a really dangerous hitter) in the 8th inning.

If we're up by 1 against the Cardinals, and the 8th inning men coming up to bat are Pujols, Rolen, and Edmonds... I don't have any problem with bringing Lidge in there.

Of course, this will most definitely not be a regular thing... in fact, it should only be used in the extreme cases (like the one I mentioned above, and maybe if we're trying to break a slump or something).

are you kidding me, Harville? This is guy has 20+ ERA this spring and he has major troubles throwing strikes. My guess is Qualls but maybe Zeke.

Likely Qualls, but hasn't Garner been big on Russ Springer lately?

Yes, Springer's been throwing the ball real well and he is throwing his fastball in the mid-90's.

I would have to go with Qualls at this point..he has been the most consistant in spring.

I would put Qualls and Wheeler neck and neck and think we should use both often.

I also like Harville despite his shaky spring. He has much better stuff than Gallo and he has alot more potential. He did well for us last year during the stretch run.

Between Harville and Qualls,we should be O.K.I still don't like the way Drayton is approaching the setup man role though. It's not like we have a large margin of error. The Astros should already have one in place,or be able to get one very quickly.
I have high expectations for both these guys, but their young.

I'll make a bold prediction and say Lidge leads the league in innings pitched for a closer. :D
