The important thing is not the starting PG, but the PG off the bench when Harden is taking some rest. So essentially, who will be the guy running the offense for about 10 minutes while Harden is not on the floor? Bev can start since Harden holds the ball most of the time anyway.
Ish Smith released tonight, $992k/yr http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2014/07/15/phoenix-suns-waive-point-guard-ish-smith/12701829/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdnfzvaThf0
Unless Rondo is given free reign to play his midrange game, he'll be an even worse fit for this team than Lin. Rondo never was good from three, and scores at the rim if the defenders are kept honest with his mid game. He's also a pick-and-roll pick-and-pop guy, which isn't exactly what the Rox run offensively. (Rondo is a very good defender, but he's a freelancer defensively. Not something that McHale likes.) If Rondo is shackled by "Moreyball", he'll end up being a high-priced Pat Beverley.
Dont want to beat a deadhorse (actually... that sounds intriguing), but we most definitely need a playmaker in addition to Harden. I love Harden and think he is extremely talented is the best SG at this point in the NBA, but him running the offense generally involves a lot of ISOs and I don't think we need that out of our starting "PG" as some of you claim him to be. We need an additional ballhandler that brings it up and can hold on to the ball while there's a screen for Harden or any play that's similar. Harden bring up the ball will lead to a very stagnant offense. As a SG he is entitled to the right amount of ISOs but as a PG it shouldn't be that way. We need a PG with high IQ and one that is willing to play D, that's about it really. Is the FO even taking an active interest in any potential candidates? Haven't heard anything besides Rondo and that's not gonna happen.
It is Beverley. You are out of your mind if you didn't realize he was the Starting PG from last season.
What are the chances that Sergio Lull comes over from Europe? Would be cool if he came over and started for us.
If he didn't show any playmaker skills last year, highly doubtful it'll happen this year, or ever. If that was the case, any average PG in this league would miraculously become CP3 or Steve Nash after an offseason of work.
Harden is our point guard even though he shouldn't be but I'm sure Beverley will start. No reason to think he won't.
It was 3-4 years before Steve Nash became Steve Nash. Last year was just Beverley's 1st full season in the NBA.
Wow..I hope you aren't one those who scoffed at the idea of Parsons becoming a Scottie Pippen type player.
This. Beverley's assists would be up if he weren't playing alongside Harden. Here are the points/assists/steals from the starting backcourts of three teams last year: HEAT Chalmers 9.8 / 4.9 / 1.6 Wade 19.0 / 4.7 / 1.5 Total 28.8 / 9.6 / 3.1 SPURS Parker 16.7 / 5.7 / 0.5 Green 9.1 / 1.5 / 1.4 Total 25.8 / 7.2 / 1.9 ROCKETS Bev 10.2 / 2.7 / 1.4 Harden 25.4 / 6.1 / 1.6 Total 35.6 / 8.8 / 3.0 Our starting backcourt is in great shape. We just need solid help off the bench at those positions.
