John Clayton with this exact article on ESPN: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10090501/the-next-texans-coach
Texans hire Lovie Smith; Bears let Cutler walk; Texans sign Cutler to be the QB. Or substitute "Mike Shanahan" for "Lovie Smith".
1. Cowher 2. Shaw 3. Malzahn 4. Horton 5. Bowles In those order. Assistant coaches are critical so these guys better bring top notch personnel with them!
So Mike Shanahan is the hot name out there. Appearing on NFL Insiders Friday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen floated current Redskins coach Mike Shanahan as a possible candidate for the Texans' head-coaching vacancy. This is all just speculation because Shanahan remains under contract with the Redskins and the Texans' coaching search hasn't even begun yet, but Mort isn't the first NFL Insider to connect Shanahan to Houston. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora and ESPN's John Clayton have similarly done so. Owner Bob McNair made it clear Friday that he intends to hire a coach with NFL head-coaching experience. Shanahan fits that bill and would also allow for a smooth transition on offense. Shanahan's philosophy is very similar to ex-coach Gary Kubiak's.
Shanahan is not an option please tell me this. I thought Cable did excellent with the Raiders with what he had to work with. Wade? Geeesh! Whisenhunt? Not against. Roman? Maybe. Lovie? Nah. Why is Del Rio, Rex Ryan not on this list?
We need a coach the players will progress/play hard for. Coaches that have the intangibles: Tony Dungy Jon Gruden Bill Cowher
Please not lovie David shaw is the man comes along with smash mouth football and also comes from the harbrough coaching tree
Does anyone consider Malzahn a strong candidate for HC? Think I'd be on board with Shaw if Cowher/Gruden group isn't available.
I'm tired of the Bill Cowher talk. Jon Gruden David Shaw Lovie Smith These three guys should be the only ones in discussion.
Whisenhunt seems to have success wherever he goes. He got fired in AZ because they had no one to play QB.
