My reasoning is in the a couple posts above yours Besides just because Bridgewater is the best qb by far doesn't mean he is the best talent on the board The whole reason why Clowney is getting a strong look by our guys. Clowney is a generational talent
I don't even know what dye in wool media fabrication means. I don't pay a lot of attention to what media has to say about him, most of it is just to get hits to their sites, etc. I base off of what I've seen him do in college, how he played and how I think he will preform in the NFL.
Ok, perhaps this is well past due, but endoftheworld has landed on my ignore list. He's just parroting the same lines over and over and it's grown old. Goodbye, endoftheworld.
Look at Cam Newton, now he had "potential for greatness" coming out of school 6'6 250 4.5 speed Absolute cannon for an arm And he still had to adjust his game big time for the pros
Actually, it's not. When a player has a better arm, better athleticism, and better playmaking ability...then the odds of becoming great are exponentially increased. You dont become great with an average arm, average athleticism, and an inability to consistently connect on 20+ yard passes, while being scrawny. However, with a lot of work, he can become good to very good. Manziel has the better potential, but may also be the riskier pick...but there is no doubting that if Manziel can have a much bigger impact with his skill set.
Tom Brady Drew Brees Joe Montana the list goes on "Potential for greatness" is not a physical attribute. Its mental, its : Toughness Football IQ Football Instincts Pocket Presence The ability to process information very quickly If you have these traits, as long as you have enough arm and accurate your potential is practically limitless
I'd rank them like this: 1A. Manziel (although he could be a huge bust) 1B. Theodore 2. Carr 3. Mettenberger 4. Bortles 5. Garoppolo 6. Savage 7. Murray That's the order is select them in. I'd be happy with any of the first five in the second. Ecstatic with any of my top three.
Yeah, pretty much it. Even though I think he has the highest potential, he is still probably a riskier pick than say Bridgewater. As far as Cam, I think he could be great as well. Greatness is not defined by one set of standards. I think Luck has potential for Brady/Manning type greatness. I think Manziel has potential for Farve/Young type greatness, a step down from Brady/Manning. My biggest worry is probably durrability based on his style of play, although I think he will alter it somewhat to limit injury possibility.
The only thing Johnny is lacking on that list is pocket presence. I think he will improve on that especially if he has a guy like BOB (a supposed QB guru) to help teach him.
I know he does not have the same set of skills, I'm thinking he could have the same type career in the NFL. I'll have to go back and watch Young, but I don't think he is more athletic than Johnny.
You can't just teach pocket presence Its the most difficult discipline to learn and develop because it requires a qb to really change the instinctual flow of how he has played his entire life. Its one thing if he is allowed to sit and learn so he can get the mental and practice reps before having him thrown into the fire. Its a completely different to throw him into the fire day 1. Thats the difference between Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith. I will say this, I draw comparisons between Montana and Young that I see in Bridgewater and Manziel Like Young, Manziel was the more physically gifted of the pair with a penchant for making dynamic plays. Arguably both had the stronger arm as well. Like Montana, Bridgewater is ridiculously efficient, and not efficient as in safe, efficient as in knowing where to go with the ball every time he drops back. And like Montana he is a really good understanding of nuances in the pocket and on the run. Very good natural thinker in the passing game
Straight line speed does not determine athleticism to me (I also do not really care about a qb's 40 time). I base on what I see on the field. JFF has more escapability and abality to make plays and throw on the run than any QB I've seen at the college level.
winner in college - Bortles, Bridgewater, McCarron all had better records in college good combine - ??? great pro day - Jamarcus Russell teammates rave about him- says every qb thats has come out in the last 25 years it factor - seriously?
