Wow, still going to be some tough cuts. could be that Adrien, Dorsey, and Canaan may be the odd men out if you got to keep Capela and Johnson 2/3 nonactives on roster. Too bad Capela demanded to come over this year.
Dorsey isn't proven yet in this system. He may be all defensive in Europe, but he hasn't come on to the court and shown it. Before Black played, I thought he was just signed to fill out the Vipers.
I think Black also did fairly well in Summer League so that is why the team wanted to take a closer look. Losing out on Bosh is what causing us to carry those rookies, 2nd year players again It is a shame because we could have used more PFs and combo guards during our playoff run with Rick Adelman.
I dont remember Black doing much in SL, but you may be right. I was pleasantly surprised with him in this game. But he's listed at 6 9 and 250. thats pretty good sized. If we had Black or Adrien last year, then they would have come in handy against portland to grab a few rebounds. ha ha
Yea I commented at 6 11 earlier but someone said that was wrong. On yahoo sports app, says 6 9 , so I dont know. He just plays big.
The Rockets need a trade to make the cuts easier. I'd try to do a Donte Greene-Artest type deal. A win now move but preserve assets that will be more valuable mid-season. Something like Capela for AK47. This would be the squad I'd roll out... Bev, Smith, Johnson Harden, Terry, Daniels Ariza, Pap, Adrien AK47, Jones, Donuts Howard, Black, Dorsey
you want this 33yr old floppaholic ex-utah-jizzhole who averaged 5pts in 19min/game in 45gms last season to start for us?
We need a two for one trade in order to balance our roster..for me, i want DMo shipped for a better player..
Here is what I would do: Send Nick Johnson and Capela to the D League Cut Powell, Covington and Michelle Roll with: Bev / Smith / Canaan Harden / Terry / Daniels Ariza / Pap / Cisco TJ / Adrien / Black Howard / DMO / Dorsey And then once a quality for quantity trade is made, promote NJ and Capela.
That's 17 players when we're only allowed 15. The only way to send Johnson and Capela to the D-League and not have them count against the 15 man roster is to waive them. That's not going to happen. Both will be part of our 15 man roster.
Canaan and Dorsey are both signed to fully/mostly guaranteed contracts through 2015-16 and would eat into 2015 cap room if waived. Not saying that makes them locks to make the team, but this should definitely factor into any decision to cut either of them. (Also, anyone thinking the Rockets can flip Garcia in a trade in December needs to realize that he's a One-Year Bird player and cannot be traded without his consent.)
This is a very good problem to have -difficult decision on which 5 players will be cut. This is all your fault Morey.
I think Adrein is a lock to make the team. I would put Josh Powell in his place. I think Johnson will definitely be retained, as he should. I do feel that he will spend some time in the D-League before joining the rest of the team.
To me, this pretty much means that Dorsey is making the team. At least with Canaan, you can trade him and get him off the books. If he sees enough out of Smith and Black, maybe Morey decides to trade Covington and Canaan to the Sixers for a heavily protected second round pick. Philly gets cheap, young talent, and the Rockets don't unnecessarily waste 2015 cap space.
