Kostas proves he is a capable defender and Garcia is more than expendable.

Terry proves he can score, make some plays off the bench and Garcia is likely out now or in the winter.

I had high hopes in Canaan replacing Lin as the bench scorer but after these past two games, his attitude isn't right. He looks so nonchalant out there while Ish Smith is fighting and gaining minutes every play. McHale obviously favors Smith over Canaan right now too. I'm looking at the Rockets to trade him for a late 2nd if they need to cut players.

I was high on Covington but he just doesn't look like he can play in the NBA. He has the body and can shoot but there is something lacking in him. Unless he explodes, he is a definite cut.

Mitchell is a cut, as is Powell.

Shame that Capela couldn't wait overseas a year because he is messing the cuts up. Unless the Rockets can find a trade partner, he is going to be on the roster.

Johnson is going to make the team. Adrien and Black have shown me enough to warrant spots.

Its going to be hard to cut some guys. If I had to bet, I would choose Covington, Powell, Mitchell and possibly a trade with Capela and Canaan for draft picks.

If it came down to it.. Black or Adrien?

Your wanting to let go of Canaan? That's mind boggling to me. Canaan is an asset not only as a backup or third string pg (beverly can get injured easily by nature of how he plays) but also in a big trade.. hmm for a team we might get a better pg from. He can shoot the three decently, has a high motor for a young guy, and plays with confidence. Not a bad defender for smaller pgs either.

Kids young and could turn into houstons own reggie jackson esk.

I fear that but it is still a fact that Capela at least needs one or two seasons to actually make the bench if scouting reports are true. Not much offensive game, some defensive potential. It would come as a surprise if he developed earlier.

We carry too much young weight for my taste

It's going to be tough. We need Canaan to be at least a little effective at the point, and I'm not seeing it. Yes, he can score, but we have plenty of scoring options, in my opinion, and when Canaan gets the ball, he looks first to score. It's pretty bad when Ish Smith makes you look like a chump playing at the one. We have a better, bigger scoring option in the backcourt in Daniels. I'd trade Canaan for something like a future 2nd, or include him in a deal if it meant keeping an effective big like Adrien, or Black, who impressed the heck out of me tonight. Canaan needs to either step up, act like a point guard and get with the program, or give his spot to someone we need more, like possibly Tarik Black. Still thinking about the other guys.

Dorsey better get healthy 'cause Black is going to force himself on this team the way he is playing.

Mitchell, Covington and Powell are locks to get cut IMO.

Some tough decisions coming up though.

Unlike last year, our bench is just loaded with shooting, there's terry, daniels, papa and a healthier garcia, last year our wing depth was an unhealthier garcia and ronnie brewer, so what we really need is someone with good handles and some playmaking in him, sure the shooting would be nice, but this is bench minutes here with some serious sniping on the roster.

Caanan is cut, He cant play point, dude is a scoring PG in a offense that isnt asking him to score. Ish Smith looks like the better all around PG would can get the offense flowing when Harden/Bev is on the bench

I know Garcia saved us some games in the playoffs 2 years ago but last season he stunk it up and was outplayed by mediocre Prince Casspian most of the regular season.

If Covington can't step up his game in preseason then he deserves to get cut. I hate to lose him tho.

I really wish they'd cut Garcia but I know they won't. Veteran leadership in the locker room and all that.

Black and Smith are going to make it TOUGH. And the fact that they're clearly high in the rotation right now makes it tougher. It'll be interesting to see if Dorsey makes Black expendable.

    I don't think they'll cut Canaan.

Capela will make the team but will be on the Vipers as well as Nick Johnson.

I agree with Ish; I've always liked him. He can push the pace, plays within his games, looks for open team mates.

Looking back at last year, perhaps if some of Lin's minutes were given to Canaan, he may have developed better by now, but that's all in hind sight.

    Cut:
Akil Mitchel- hasn't played a minute
Robert Covington- very inconsistent, can't do much of anything, and hasn't played much
Josh Powell- can't produce and we have players ahead of him who we are asking to do the same only they are better at it

    D-League:
Nick Johnson- needs to become a more consistent shoter
Clint Capela- has been hurt and too RAW for the league right now

    IP:
Joey Dorsey- will be in street clothes most of the time unless he gets it together

    2014/2015 Roster:
    C-Dwight Howard
    F-Terrence Jones
    F-Trevor Ariza
    G-James Harden
    G-Patrick Beverly
    Bench:
    Black
    DMO
    Adrien
    PAPA
    Terry
    Garcia
    Ish
    Canaan
    Daniels

Question: in the NBA, if you have a player injured, does he count towards the 15 active roster players or is that a separate category?

I may be wrong but the dleague guys count toward the 15 total roster people. I think its 12 active and 3 inactive which you can have on the roster praciticing or in dleague.

I think that was the late case with Yao. I am not sure but Rockets asked the league to free up a 16th slot.

Yeah this is tough. I'd hate to have to get rid of Canaan. I still say you gotta cut black though. Yeah he impressed tonight but it's one game and we have more proven guys that do the same thing in adrien and Dorsey. Plus there's a good chance he may not get picked up and we can get him on the vipers , then sign him later in the season like we've done before.
