He was never much of an athlete to be begin with, if anything he seems to have more athletic in that video then what he was. But man, did you see his outside touch, having a center that can shoot three's and score inside, that's a rare combo! But yeah I agree, gotta wait and see how he does in the group workouts. Hopefully the Rockets will have coach by then, to help with the evaluation of these players.
I think the Rockets actually had a deal in place to move up in last year's draft to the #2 overall pick to select Cousins, but didn't fell through for Morey's unwillingness to give up to many assets. He wanted to save some assets in case of a sign and trade last summer for Chris Bosh, I think... If we were able to trade for a high pick in last years draft, which was considered strong, we can most certainly trade for one in this years weaker draft.
Some good passing by Darius Morris. Also watch last play starting at the 5:43mark. <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nvkXJH54VI4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Right. You base everything on youtube highlights. draftexpress.com and nbadraft.net. Never mind. This is not a serious discussion with you.
Have you heard of Mirsad Turkcan? The worst Houston Rocket to never play, and one of the best Euroleague players of all time? Or, we could just bring Terrence Morris back and call it a day...
There have been plenty of NBA rotation players that have gone to the Euroleague and absolutely sucked and even some of them were complete scrubs in Euroleague. But you would not know that because you only follow the NBA, which makes your general basketball knowledge limited.
I think so.....We need a true center....we have a Biyombo his name is PatP baby!!!Lets role with our boy and see how he develops.....plus the kid can score....can Biyombo???
Well, Motiejunas is a PF and Valanciunas is like a 4/5. Although I think he is more suited to the 4. I would not consider either of them really as centers to be honest.
Rabbit ears! Am I getting to you? (Or am I just making your eardrums hurt?) Basketball knowledge need not be applied to lesser leagues. The Euroleague, the NBA Dleague, the NCAA, the YMCA, The AAU circuit, and the retirement home are all places where you can find basketball being played at different levels. There is a common theme though, all these leagues are far inferior to the best league, the NBA. You can find NBA rotation players that would be considered scrubs in the DLeague and the Euroleague. You can find Euro & Dleague scrubs that can carve a role in the NBA. You can find mediocre DLeague/Euro players that make a significant impact in the NBA. You can find NBA DLeague superstars that would never make an NBA roster. You can find Euroleague superstars that would never make an NBA roster. A true analyst of the game has the ability to recognize the fact that NBA coaches have intricate systems that involve a set number of 6 ups, 6 downs, 7's, 8 cuts, 9's and 90's. These individual, unique systems have some roles that need unique skillsets, regardless of overall talent of the individual. The bottomline is that the NBA has by far the largest talent pool to select from, as well as the most money to spend on the best facilities, scouts and staff. NBA Scouts have the toughest job, because they have to determine what basketball talent translates to a league of stars, the NBA. This is much different from basketball in the rest of the world. While Billy might be TMac of Greece, In the NBA, he needs to fit into a system, a system with far greater individual talent than himself. Billy wonders why his play didn't translate? Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibs would much rather have Tracy McGrady in a pick and roll than Billy, so that changes Billy's role. Who would you rather have off the ball in a P&R? Billy or Keith Bogans? An intellectual basketball mind would take the smart, 6-6, shooter, Keith Bogans, every single time, and Keith Bogans might not even be a mediocre Euroleague player, but he has a defined role, that is tops in the world. He is an elite defender. He can knock down three's. He is selfless. In reality, he would probably play off Billy in Euroleague, while Billy does a lot of the creating as the "star". The funny thing is, only one of those two would ever make an NBA roster, and rightfully so. In essence, no one should give a flying fart about domination at lower levels, because usage percentages will go to the top dogs of the NBA, and everyone else better find a role before Keith Bogans, Chuck Hayes and Derek Fisher take your spot...
Maybe, but would we get good value for whoever we traded in order to move up in this year's draft? Wouldn't we be better off - in the long term - by trying to get as many picks in the 2012 draft as possible, even if that means trading down a few spots in this year's draft? It seems to me that, by letting RA walk, the front office is not looking to "win now", but have instead set their sights a few years down the road.
