    Bima,

Do you see Boston reaching out to the Rockets about a guard or the trade exception? They are in desperate need of a shooting guard, especially now that Smart is out.

I can see them offering Bass for Daniels or maybe Canaan...

Nuggets Center Javale McGee is getting 10 minutes of burn per night in Denver.

Averaging over 2 blocks per game.

    Take a look Morey.

Would using the TPE in the offseason also prevent us from using any cap space next season?

I doubt Boston reaches out to Houston for anything this year. If anything, Houston would reach out to Boston. The Celtics still have Marcus Thornton and James Young on their bench if they want another SG.

Sorry, I should have clarified. The Rockets could try like hell to make that significant trade during this season (which would then presumably foreclose the cap room route this summer), and THEN use the Lin TPE to further upgrade the roster next summer.

    Andrea Bargnani

per his scouting report, "Nice face-the-basket game... Good shooter... Likes to shoot the three (a lot)..."

That's exactly what we need; a PF who can stretch the defense and keep the post open for Dwight to operate as we are going to fire up the 3-pointer this year like never before so we need all the ammunition we can get. Sure, Bargain has been a complete bust for a former #1 pick, but then again he played for two really sad franchises in Toronto and New York. In Houston, he would not be expected to develop into a star, but instead into a solid role-player, which is exactly what he is overall talent and skill set wise. This is the perfect Morey move; grab unwanted piece from a bad team and turn into a good contributor under the right circumstance. Now, as far as salary is concerned, Bargnani comes with a price tag of $12 Million contract that expires at the end of the season. So we get to load up a complimentary piece and still retain our cap flexibility for the summer. Also, Knicks probably would take the offer of cap relief plus a future pick. Let's make it happen.

I'd take Brandon Bass like Carl Herrera said before right now. He's not a game changer but he's a solid player and we sorely need front court competent depth.

    i'm all for B. Bass

we need to create a roster spot first:
    Johnson + Capela + a future 1st round pick for J. Henson

now we can trade a 2nd pick for Bass using the Lin TPE

then package Bass, Jones, and picks for Millsap at the deadline
(if Jones' value is high at the deadline we might just use two 2nd picks here and keep the NOP pick)

i'll also trade Dorsey for one of Indy's 4 expiring point guards and bring back Adrien.

    our line-up for the playoffs:

    Howard, Henson, Black
    Millsap, DMo, Adrien
    Ariza, Papa, Garcia
    Harden, Terry, Daniels
    Beverley, Canaan, expiring PG

Wouldn't be surprised if you're right - why try to win this (or last) year? That would be foolish.

While I agree that the most likely scenario is that the Lin TPE isn't used until July of 2015 it doesn't hurt to consider the other possibilities since Morey is constantly doing the opposite of what most of us think he will do.

    Here are a couple:

    1. Trade for an expiring contract that can be flipped later at the deadline (more than 60 days). For this to happen, we will have to use the TPE by December 19th or so.

    2. Trade for a contract(s) that a team wants to dump that they are willing to give up a future first rounder for.

Some combination of 1 and 2 above.

If the Pacers continue to struggle and decide to essentially tank the season as they should then the TE plus the NOP pick for West make sense for both sides.

Not sure if West fits into the exception though.

Not sure I get the dig about not trying to win last year (unless you're just trying to drop a reference to most of the Rockets playing poorly in the playoffs).

If you think Brandon Bass (or a similar caliber player) is the missing piece to a 2014-15 NBA Champion Houston Rockets team, then fine. But otherwise, I don't get the snark at the notion that the Rockets would want to try to maximize that TPE in order to get themselves as close to a championship team as possible.

Very surprised Carlos Boozer's name hasn't been mentioned yet, so this question goes out to Bima or any other capologists:

Are there any sort of restrictions preventing him from being traded and/or acquired via the Lin TPE?

The Lakers CANNOT trade Carlos Boozer this year (due to amnesty restrictions), and he will be a free agent at the end of this season.

So, no. Unless the Lakers waive Boozer, he won't be joining the Rockets this season.

I wonder if his full salary counts against a trade or just the Lakers bid

Boozer! Did you just say Boozer? One of the least productive power forwards in the game.

Right now it is an extreme sellers market in the NBA. This thread should be shut down until the trade deadline approaches and it becomes obvious which teams will trade assets at a discount.
