Most Coaches played at least at Division 1. Very many were NBA players. What about the others?

    my contribution

    Jeff Van Gundy
    Bill Fitch

I bet you JVG could beat Fitch in 1 on 1, though.

^I tried to think of coaches who got the job but never played (didn't look enough into it) but were/are there a lot?
and if so how would they get the position without any affiliation to the sport.

Good question. If you never even played college ball, how do you get a job.

In JVG's case, you get an asst job with Rick Pitino and then Pitino tells Stu Jackson and Pat Riley about you...and Stu Jackson hires you as Riley's asst.

    the rest is history

I agree, I think JVG could beat Fitch 1 on 1. But Fitch is 78 and JVG is only 51. It could be close game though.

Adelman played for the Rockets that beats a guy that played Division III college ball.

I bet McFail never played ball, that's why he mcfails at coaching.

(Sorry, lame semi-troll attempt at mocking certain fans...)

Guess this proves being better at basketball than someone doesn't mean you know more about it
