Don't take Larry Brown. SMU needs him more than the Rockets do. George Karl is my first choice, followed by Hollins, and then JVG/Adelman
Experienced candidates : - JVG - SVG - Lionel Collins - Jerry Sloan - George Karl - Mike Woodson Possible Rookie Coaches? - Steve Kerr - Patrick Ewing - Any assistant that has been with Poppovich for a while? Outsiders on top of our wish list : - Thibs if he leaves the Bulls after the 1st round series loss - Frank Vogel if he gets canned because Indy doesn't make it to the ECF Our problem is defense, so going by that, I think Lionel Collins or JVG would be coaches who would improve our defense. Of course, if the Bulls get rid of Thibs after 1st round exit, ( and Thibs has been an assistant at Houston before), I would love him to be our coach.
jeez. Barkley finds it hard to string a coherent sentence together. How do you be a good communicator of ideas with your players? Like Aries Spears says "Like his brain don't know what the f**k his mouth is sayin'"
OH yeah. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Imagine the Zen Master teaching Harden some discipline. He got Jordan to play defense, if anybody has a chance to get Harden to play D it would be Phil Jackson.
I dont know about the VG brothers. too much baggage. adelman? baggage. karl seems nice. although his playoff experience with the nuggets is concerning. couldn't tame melo (harden factor). health is also a factor. overall a pretty good choice though. hollins seems nice too. havent look too much into him. is sloan even looking to get back to the game? you need a guy who commands respect. someone who will check harden. give the team discipline and not tolerate bad habits (quarters where there is no effort, giving up double digit leads). someone who can run a more elaborate offensive system.
Someone that is good for Harden (assuming we keep him). A defensive minded coach like Lionel Hollins that would get in Harden's face and wouldn't be afraid to bench him. My favourite coach is Brett Brown but the 76ers won't be letting him go anytime soon. Being with Pop for over 10 years and what he did with the guards in that system was phenomenal.
I watched this interview a while back and remember Hollins saying that he wanted to run when he came to Memphis but had to slow the pace due to his roster (coaching versatility), and something along the lines of him believing in analytics as a compliment to conventional scouting. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LBsOQ_ZIB_E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I like that there are so many options out there. Lots of guys that would be an upgrade over what we have now.
