Riojas, Kirkwood and Westheimer. Great place for intimate dates, as well as great tapas. Short ribs, shrimp, calamari, pretty much cant go wrong with anything there. Good wine and great atmosphere.

Killen's Steakhouse in Pearland. Absolutely amazing and still, for the most part, a hidden gem.

The Head Chef/Owner is fantastic and will come out and talk to guests. He is about to leave (next week I think) to be on one of those "Iron Chef" type shows on Food Network.

I've been to Mi Luna before. It's pretty good, but last time I went the service was absolutely dreadful.

I actually live in Pearland but have yet to try this place it. I've heard great things, though. Thanks for reminding me about it.

    **** that.

If you like Indian, there's a nice place on Westheimer called Indika. It's more of a fusion place, so you won't get the typical Indian cuisine (for better or for worse), but the food there is spectacular. The Mango chicken is fabulous, as is the vegetarian platter.

Yep, I live around the corner and my best friend is Chef Ronnie's apprentice. Great place, going for my anniversary this evening actually.

I've always wanted to try that place. Does it compare to Vij's in Vancouver? (for anyone that has been to both)

It's a bit of a drive but well worth it.....The Black Walnut Cafe is wonderful. Great food, upscale enviroment, very comfortable, but yet elegent. The food looks like something out of Chef Gordon Ramsay's kitchen. We went a few weeks ago, and were able to sit in some comfy over-stuffed chairs (think recliners kind of), with a table pulled up. Very nice experience overall. Tons of desserts!!!..... and entrees that dont leave you too full, so you can have room (my biggest problem). Italian ice cream, cakes and pies galore. Try this out!!!

Trust me, you wont regret it!!!!

Another vote for Catalan's...though it might push the $25 price point a little.

If your bf is a beer drinker, tell him to get a "Southern Blonde Bombshell Ale". The waiter there recommended it to me and it was good stuff. Brewed in Conroe.

I went there last time I was in Sugar Land. Not bad, especially for the price (super cheap).

Thanks guys. I've bookmarked all the sites for the restaurants and going to peep the menus to see what strikes my fancy at the time. Regardless, I'm just happy to have a solid list of places to try. A lot of these look great. :)

It looks like I need to check out Catalan. I love these types of threads bc there are always restaurants that I haven't even of heard of.

Straits at City Center is a good look too. It's a Singaporean restaurant but has Thai items as well. You could also go upstairs after dinner in Hotel Solera and grab drinks at the Mona Lisa bar.

I'd suggest Max's Wine Dive on Washington. Their kobe beef burger is $18 and well worth every bite

I'm kind of a restaurant critic, at least I should be. Me and my wife eat out 6 days a week.

Even though I live 5 minutes from it, I've still never been to Catalan just because I've heard one too many less than stellar reviews. I do need to make it out there though. Here are a couple suggestions:

    Italian:
Patrenella's - Located in an old house that the owner grew up in. Good classic Italian food. It's located right off of Washington Ave, so there is plenty of night life close by if you want to do something after dinner.

Vincent's/Nino's - Located in a nice secluded little area right off of W Dallas that most people have never seen. There are multiple italian restaurants on the property all owned by the Mandola family. Nino's is the nicest one out there, Vincent's is a bit more casual but still nice. The food is basically the same. If you go to one of these, get the Veal. Trust me.

    Steak/American:
Vic and Anthony's - Yes it's owned by Landry's and yes it is amazing. This is now my favorite restaurant in Houston. Mark's used to hold that title. It's not cheap though. Without alcohol, expect to spend $35-$45 per person. Located downtown near Minute Maid Park.

Beny's - Like Vic and Anthony's, it's a place where you can get a variety of things including seafood and steak. It's a little less expensive, and a much trendier atmosphere. Food is very good. There is a rice village location, and a Washington Ave location.
