I went to el tiempo off of west gray and I just think it's overpriced and bland. Any cheaper places around midtown, heights, downtown area that is better?

Being that it's opinionated, it's relative from person to person. Your definition of overpriced may be chump change to the next guy. Go experience it for yourself.

    $14 for carnitas, $ 11 for a burrito, $ 17 for a poblano relleno?

Sounds like you need to hit up Casa Ole'. Or go to Cadillac Bar and get 18 lbs. of food on one plate for $10. You won't enjoy the next day though.

Teotihuacán on Airline and Patton. The build-a-meal is cheap, but the regular dishes are good, and not overpriced. Happy hour is good, too.

Might be a little out of the way, but Andy's cafe, right across the street from Hogg Middle School on 11th in the Heights. They added the cafe to pander to the hippies, but it's a Tex-Mex joint. Been going there for years.

Get the beef burritos with cheese.

Then you are out of luck because el timepiece is the best tex mex food in the city, bar none. It's expensive for sure but that's because it's the best

You must not have had the beef fajitas at El Tiempo if you think it is bland.

Agreed. I eat at the one on Washington at least once a week. I've never had a bland meal from them, ever. I always leave very satisfied. Their fajitas and enchiladas are just the bomb.

I do like El Tiempo, but it's certainly not so much better than so many other places with much better prices and there are quite a few I enjoy better.

I wish I could find Fajitas the equal of El Tiempo in Austin. I'm usually stuck going to Lupe Tortilla's or Pappasitos.

I'm sure there are some out there but I've been burned too many times to keep looking.

Everyone I meet loves El Tiempo. Although I don't hate it, it's hardly what I'd call great. And the margaritas are average too. I'd never chose to go there. The Original Ninfa's goes hard but it might be expensive? I don't love El Real but I'm not sure if it's cheap. Don't they all cost the same with the exception of like, La Tapatia type joints?

Go to like Chachos or Taqueria Cancun? Those are places.

Gringo's is pretty good. Also Chacho's. And if you're feeling very cheap, Taco Cabana.
