since getting Martin and unleashing Brooks and Scola more... it seems like another factor has been fitting perfectly where it should have...

    TREVOR.

I always felt sick watching him try to do what Martin was brought to do. In fact, I never considered him a Rocket for the first half of this season. He's just not a go to scoring thread. Martin however is.

I always considered him a Laker.

Ariza just never felt like a Rocket to me and he never melded with the team. However, now that the team has changed and he can take a better, more suited role for his talent, he's starting to look like a team player. He's looking like a Rocket.

22 minutes for Trevor last night.

Even Phil Jackson said he is a 20ish minutes per game player.

Glad Rick finally figured it out.

Yep, I want to see Ariza and Battier each average 25-30 minutes per game. Budinger can get significant minutes if he develops further.

    Adelman's precise playing time control:

    Last game vs. Grizllies:

    Hayes+ JHIll= 48:00
    AB+Lowry =48:00
    Martin+Budinger= 48:00
    Ariza+Battier=48:07
    Scola+Anderson=47:53

You don't think Rick already knew Ariza's limitations? The problem was a lack of depth. Budinger just isn't good enough yet to contribute significantly to the rotation.

Yeah, he seems to have hit a rookie wall or something. He showed promise early on but seems to have tailed off with major inconsistency and lack of confidence in his shot.

He made a nice layup the other night though.

True, but I think the key issue here is that teams can't just plan to trap Brooks all the time anymore because of Martin. He's always going to have more space now, even against the elite defensive teams. Now, those teams might take that space away more quickly than the other teams, but it will still be there and Brooks will still have a second (or less) to take advantage of it.

Pretty informative, actually. The two prior games Ariza played more because the opposing teams went small for a good portion of the game and Adelman matched with Battier at the 4 and Ariza at the 3 for a decent stretch. Against Memphis, both teams stayed in a "traditional" setup more, so no more 4 man minutes to give to Battier and allowing Ariza to play during Battier's 24 minuts. So, essentially, Battier and Ariza each got half of the 48.

he's a rook.. he got all iffy around trade deadline and hasn't gotten time since. he's a good player still, just no room for him yet.

I think Martin's attitude is also rubbing off on the team. He scores his points in the flow of the game and won't force it that often, which Brooks and Ariza were doing a lot of earlier in the season. With Martin on the floor, it gives these guys another scoring option and allows them to get better shots at the same time.

Geesh, the make up of the team is sweet. Brooks can take it to the basket with his speed, or he can stop and pop mid range shot, or take a 3 point shot with his 40% shooting; while keeping the option to pass at any point. Martin can shoot the 3 pointer, hit a mid range shot, or get to the line for his 8.4 average free throw attempts as a Rocket; also he looks to pass at any point too.

With Yao Ming and Scola in the middle and in the block, wow... Scola, has proven time in and time out that he can play without having to have the ball. If he's open he shoots. If there is a match up problem he does not hesitate to take advantage of the situation.

Plus, with Ariza and Battier concentrating on the opposing teams offensive wing top player (Wade, Kobe, Lebron, etc.), Martin and Brooks can continue to apply pressure on the offensive end.

He has not hit a rookie wall, he has not gotten any playing time......his wall is in the form of a lack of court time.

Maybe its the inconsistent minutes but even when he has played more than 5 minutes in a game his shot seems to be off. He also hasn't been rebounding or dishing as well as earlier. Again like you said that could be due to a lack of PT.

I haven't seen a reduce in his rebounding and assists. His shot does seem off. I don't want to call this a rookie wall. This is more likely just not getting into flow of the game with limited minutes.

Definitely takes the weight off Brooks with Martin's arrival. Man this team is going to be excellent if Yao comes back strong next season.

The presence of a legit SG has really helped our starting PG and SFs games.

dunno if it was about rick figuring it out or the organization figuring it out. either way i think it was a good experiment even though ariza couldn't take on the larger role.
