I became a fan in Jan 1991 after going to my first Rockets game in person. It was when they were playing the Bulls and Olajuwon took that elbow from hell. I think it was Cartwright--It gave Larry Smith an oppurtunity to rebound the ball everytime down the floor, but it sucked hard to lose Hakeem for so long.
I follow the Rockets ever since Yao join the team. Was away for a year since Yao left...now back again w/ Lin.
I was born in 1989. I could comprehend what basketball was and who Hakeem The Dream was at age 4. I was spoiled in the early years. I used to cry every year when the Jazz would knock us out of the playoffs. I still f**$%^* hate Malone and Stockton.
I was about 11 when Yao was drafted, and i started watching games mainly because of him. I remember catching 3 or 4 games his rookie year on the spanish channels. That was all i could get.
Started cutting my teeth on them in mid 70's. Closely since about 1976-1977. Can still remember playing ball in my driveway with a home made "jersey" - just a t-shirt with "Murphy" written on the back in red marker, but with #24 for Moses. (combined 'em since they were my favorite players...lol).
The day that Clyde Drexler was traded to the Rockets I started following them, but it wasn't until the year after the Rockets won their second championship that I became a diehard fan!
1986 Finals. I was 3, almost 4 years old. I do remember the league breaking up the team over drug usage and then the horror and fallout when Sampson got hurt/traded.
In 1985, when I attended my first Rockets game. Here is the game log. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/198503300HOU.html
Became a fan the year Don Chaney left and Rudy T became head coach, 1992 maybe? I remember it was after the Oilers lost to the Bills in the AFC
I believe it was the 2001 season, the games came on Ch.51 KNWS and UPN and my family didn't have cable so I would watch Bill and Calvin. Memories of that year: Kelvin Cato doin his thing, Calvin munchin on cookies during the breaks between action, and Stevie Francis becoming the franchise.
