Followed the Rockets randomly when they got Chuck Hayes, then paid a little more attention when they got Patterson. Then I moved to Houston a month ago.
I vaguely remember the first championship but I vividly remember watching the Rockets play Jordan (I was born in 1989 and was completely obsessed with MJ like every other boy in America). I would say I became a huge Rockets fan after they acquired Barkley but always was watching.
when there was a buzz in the city again , everyone chanting bring michael n the bulls and we came up short against the jazz in 1997.
around the time Akeem and his gf at the time came and spent the day with my family... 87 or so. took me a little longer to get into the rockets as i was already a huge oilers and astros fan.
1979 I was 14 and have been loyal to the Rockets since then. I hope to see them win another Chip soon.
I'm thinking 89. My dad and I used to listen to the rockets on the radio in my room. I had one of those flimsy basketball hoops on my door and my dad would get mad at me since i was always playing while he listened to those really close games. I would tell him, "I'm practicing my free throws since they always miss theirs at the end of games!"
When Tomjanovich got punched by Washington. That did cause a furor. It was a horrible incident. It was on TV and we talked about it for days around water coolers. http://articles.latimes.com/1985-01-28/sports/sp-10262_1_kermit-washington
My guess would be around 1980 or so. I was around seven years old and can remember watching Malone, The Murph, and Rudy T. My favourite team besides the championship years though was the twin towers I honestly believe as good as Hakeem was Sampson could have been better. That is borderline blasphemy I know lol. Favourite rockets of mine would be Dream Sampson Murphy Maxwell Francis Horry Scott Brooks Mario Elie Sam Cassell Sleepy Flyod Mutombo Willis Yao Mobley Battier Scola Lee Landry Parsons Lamb D-Mo Howard?
Late 90's in Australia we didnt get to see many if any games but always liked Hakeem and the rockets. When he retired bball on tv became more scarce so didnt follow at all. Then moved in with some friends who were massive NBA fans so needed to jump on a team again. Loved the way T-Mac played so followed him at Orlando for a year or two and then was stoked when he went to the Rockets as that was my initial team. Have followed the Rockets ever since and get more and more passionate as the years go on.
