I thought he was a great fit when we hired pringles but it looks like we actually play defense sometimes. The kid can shoot but he has a lot of work to do. I don't understand him not getting D league minutes.
Dleague is a waste of time for this boy. He could average 40 and carry the team to the best record if they ran the offense through him down there. Wiltjer is a better player than Anderson with the ability to work off the dribble and go inside and out. He is plug-and-play ready to take Anderson's spot in the rotation and would be an upgrade to Anderson on both ends of the court.
The deal with Wiltjer is that he is a sneaky athletic deep bench player, so some fans are fascinated by him.
Games like last night would be good opportunities for Kyle to get some time in the big league. He could have played the whole fourth quarter.
And call him up when we have long rest so he can practice with the squad. In other words, exactly what the rockets do. We are the best at developing fringe level players. We have a serious track record 9f success.
You can tell he's filled out some compared to his preseason shape with us. He still has a ton more to fill out. Needs to gain about 15 more pounds. The hope is he can become Ryno 2.0, but right now we have the actual thing. Anderson is almost 29yrs old, but Wiltjer isn't as young as you think he is at 24 (Dekker is 22 in comparison). So, you let Wiltjer gain weight and then see where he's at in his game. For now the potential to become Anderson is still worth a roster spot.
They are dangling the carrot. Rockets always do this to their rookies. Here, see what the big boy league is like. Then they make them go to the D-League and see what not being in the NBA is like, then keep switching them. That way they remain motivated to work on their game and still get playing time in.
I don't know what you mean when you say he's not getting D league minutes. He's played in 16 D league games averaging 36 minutes per game. This is how the Rockets develop their young players. They practice with the Rockets when they can, and then they get playing time with the Vipers. Wiltjer's 3p% is 35.6 with the Vipers, so he does need to improve his shooting to be able to help the Rockets. Because he looks to be a liability on defense, he really needs to be able to knock down the three at a high percentage.
He was shooting 39% from 3 up until a couple of weeks ago. Since then, he's hit only 27%. Keeping him on the roster is worth the upside. We could easily cut Brown and Ennis to clear spots if we needed them. Let him go through another summer camp and preseason, then reevaluate where he is next season.
So is dantoni just a complete idiot for playing anderson and not wiltjer and morey is a complete idiot for paying anderson? Bballholic for coach and gm! Fire morey and dantoni!
