I say it was the 2000 draft.

There is not one single all star out of that draft. Top pick Kenyon Martin has really only had a couple of good years. Second pick Stromile Swift has been a huge dissapointment. When the entire draft is reviewed there are only a couple of starters and just a few role players left in the league from that draft.

I believe that 4 of the lottery picks are not even in the league right now. Jerome Moiso, Marcus Fizer, Courtney Alexander and Meteen Cleaves.

Mark Madson looks might be a top 10 player from that draft! Yikes.

Don't forget about Michael Redd being a second rounder (#43 pick) in that draft.

While you could make a decent team currently out of:

    PG: Crawford, Dooling
    SG: Redd, Q Rich
    SF: Mike Miller, Turkoglu
    PF: Magloire, Swift
    C: Primo Brezec, Etan Thomas

with Desmond Mason, Mo Pete, and Jaric - I agree, there is a lack of star power in that draft.

The 2002 Draft was very weak as far as Guards go.
The 1997 Draft was saved by Duncan, McGrady and Billups.

Without question it has to be either the Rockets 2006 draft (trading Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift) for Shane "I never helped a team that I played for when it mattered in the playoffs" Battier and the Rockets draft of 2007 when they selected a 5'11" college kid that we could have selected 20 picks later for $1.5 million less per year in salary cap on a team already constrained by the salary cap. This two drafts would be followed by a distant third with the Houston Texans selection of Mario "Bad Young Feet and No Work Ethic" Williams over REGGIE BUSH & VINCE YOUNG.

For the NBA in general it would be 1986.

Overall the 2000 NBA draft was the worst. As far as the Rockets go, this year's draft was horrible.

2000 was pretty brutal but I still don't think it can beat the '86 draft. Besides the poor quality of players, you also have to consider the whole Len Bias debacle.

Dikembe is the only real standout from that draft and he was defense only guy. Pretty much the rest of the draft was garbage.

1986 no doubt tops the all-time list as the single worst draft in NBA history. Ever since that Len Bias cocaine rampage, the Celtics have been cursed in the draft losing both Duncan and now Oden to the lottery.

Definitely, 1986. Almost half of the players were out of the league in 5 years. That's the highest number of busts in a draft for the last 20 years.

    They missed Michael Redd.

    nope.

Larry Johnson, Steve Smith, Terrell Brandon and Dale Davis were all good to very good in the NBA. Rick Fox and Kenny Anderson also had long careers.

that's stupid. people were pissed off when we drafted horry too and ecstatic when we traded for Eddie Griffin. Why don't you wait at least a few days saying something like that

in fact, unless Brooks pulls a Benoit, 07 could never be worse than 01 when we gave away Richard Jefferson and contributor Jason Collins.

1992. We should've gotten Harold Miner instead of that loser Horry.

haha that was bad, but it made me feel better that that griffin trade translated to yao (by us sucking) and from there transferred us to tmac (francis was tradable by building around yao) :p

If you judge a draft by all-star appearances, then 2000 is the worst by far.

    So the list is

    Kenyon Martin - 1
Jamaal Magloire - 1 (no idea how that happened)
    Michael Redd - 1

    The 1986 draft produced

    Brad Daugherty - 5
    Mark Price - 4
    Dennis Rodman - 2
    Jeff Hornacek - 1
Plus you have to give an asterisk to Len Bias (who most people would agree would have made several all star games and Arvydas Sabonis, who if he came over at the time would have done the same)

I still think 2000 was worse in terms of having good players. Both drafts have nice role players. 2000 was just garbage if you were looking for anything outside of a guy who would command an MLE salary.

Don't forget about Drazen Petrovic Redd being a third rounder (#60 pick) in the 1986 draft.

While you could make a very good team out of:

    PG: Mark Price, Scott Skiles
    SG: Petrovic, Hornacek
    SF: Ron Harper, Dell Curry
    PF: Daugherty, Rodman
    C : Sabonis, John Salley

with Chuck Person, Nate McMillan, Johnny Dawkins, and Kevin Duckworth.

I would definitely put this draft class ahead of the 2000 class.

Really. Trading a mediocre (on good days) PF and a skinny rookie or drafting a good future PG is worse than passing up a potential amazing RB and a franchise QB?

put the pipe down, bro ;)
