Great, love the responses on what to do in India for a week... You can go to Bangalore in TamilNadu. It's a pretty modernized town compared to anything in the south (if you're heading that way).
At night, you SEE a lot of people sleeping by the side of the road. When it gets dark, people just sleep wherever they may be.
Bangalore is a very modern part of India and very clean. I haven't been there yet but plan on visiting next time I go to India. I've also heard lots about Goa and how beautiful that place is. You should definetly check it out if you are landing in Mumbai. The North is where its at. Rajhastan is an amazing place. If you have a little money to spend, make sure to stay in the beautiful palaces there that have been made into hotels. You will get treatment there like you have never experienced before. Definetly visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal. You should definetly try to see some villages and poor areas of India. I think everyone should understand exactly how poor areas are around the globe. It should make you appreciate how much you have. Delhi is a real crowded place but it still fun to visit. They really have been trying to cut down on the pollution there and such. There are some amazing 5 star hotels there. Oh yea, North Indian food > South Indian food I think that's the Punjabi in me speaking...
Bangalore is in Karnataka, not Tamil Nadu. I am from the south and generally just prefer to go to the country side where life is soo much different than life here in the states. Things seem to be more relaxing there, especially at the beaches. If you wanna do the sight seeing tours and all in south india you can try jog falls, the mysore palace and tirupathi (supposedly the second richest temple/church in the world after the vatican, the place is just plated in gold man. ) and south indian food >> north indian

Last time I went to India, I wanted to buy a decked-out, state-of-the-art official copy of the Kama Sutra. Everyone I asked to get advice on where to find a copy just rolled their eyes and laughed at me. Apparently, they consider it a big joke.
Well how would you like to have one of the biggest stereotypical personifications of your country to be a sexual positions book. :Thinks for a second: Maybe it wouldn't be that bad...
there are more body sprays available in a crappy indian store than there are at Walmart... That said. I found a huge copy of the Karma Sutra at Bombay Airport ,but was with my family, so I did not buy it obviously. BUt it was huge and had like big pictures.
I ended up buying one at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai. In fact I bought like 10 copies to give to friends back here in the U.S.
