If your much of a coffee drinker definitly check out Rue de la Course. It has by far the best dark roast coffee I have had. There is one downtown near Poydras St. if you just want to grab a quick cup. If you want to hang out for a bit there is a much larger one in the garden district on Magazine st.

Anther great morning stop is La Boulangerie near the square. They have damn good fresh French Pastries and pretty good coffee. Link

Cafe Du Monde is pretty much a tourist place. Its usually really crowded and doesnt have all that good of coffee. Still its kinda one those spots everyone hits at least once.

Mother's is a good place for po-boys but it can get pretty crowded. Its off Poydras not too far from the river.
