this tells me that: 1. you don't go to astros games; 2. you have some really strong preconceived notions about people you've never met. Tell me about your impression of Rocket crowds.
1. I have been to a handful at the park. Things were better at the dome for some reason. 2. Never met? They are everywhere. Try living a mile away from Galveston County. MLB is the cousin of NASCAR. Basketball fans are more like skateboarding fans. They are more on the fringe. Skateboarding is punk, and Basketball is funk. Whitebread America can't deal with the funk or the punk.
you're a funny man, meowgi. try telling red sox or yankees fans that MLB is the cousin of NASCAR. you've got a poorly crafted theory, there. the crowd I see at Toyota Center is anything but punk...or funk. it's mostly GASP...whitebread America. they priced out the funky punks quite a while ago.
depends on where you were sitting. i loved the summit..but that crowd became very corporate during and after the championship years. the prices for rockets tickets dictate they find themselves marketing to law firms and big companies...not much soul there.
Once I used to join in Every boy and girl was my friend. Now theres revolution, but they dont know What theyre fighting. Let us close out eyes; Outside their lives go on much faster. Oh, we wont give in, Well keep living in the past.
Irony can be ironic, yes indeed. Pointing out what the fanbase was like 20 years ago doesn't really do much for your point or the general purpose of this thread, though.
saying that baseball doesn't have soul is asinine. no sport is better than another, it's all personal preference. my favorite teams are and always will be, in no particular order, the stros, the rox, the oilers, and the horns.
The Rockets are the most important team to me. But the Texans are clearly the most important team to the city of Houston. Dangit, you can't turn on the radio for 2 minutes without hearing Texans talk, and it's almost like they're only paying the Rockets lip service sometimes.
You got that right. My tickets were in the lower level. Then they won in 94 and I moved upstairs. Then they won in 95 and I moved to the corner. By the time I said this is ridiculous I was sitting in the behind the baskets upstairs. My friend and I gave up the tickets when we decided we wanted to be able to afford children.
Well yes because this is a football town, always has been always will be. The illusion that the Stros or Rockets will ever compete with the Oilers/Texans for most intrest is what it is an illusion. That being said I see why many folks say they have deeper ties to the Astros or Rockets and understand you but the average houstonian will always pick football first and if the stors or rox are winning than maybe you will see intrest peek close to the Texans and that's a fact. Don't worry in the future when this team wins some of ya'll will get that same passion. Heck perfect example last year while my boys and I were driving into Atlanta to see the Astros play the Braves in the playoffs we called sports 610 and the entire 1 hour wait we did not hear a single Astros call or mention it was all Texans when later that day the Astros were about to play game 1 of their first playoff series in the year they go to their first ever world series.
I've never fallen asleep at a Rockets game. I've fallen asleep at one of those great 1-0 baseball games that go into extra innings.
