What makes Harden's penetration so different that's getting him the calls?

i'd also add that harden being left handed is unconventional to guard, in a sense, which leads to many defenders actually foul him

Yes it is, it basically comes down to footwork and reflexes. You have to react before the defender can get himself set. Otherwise there's a high chance of travelling, if no blocking foul is called.

One ingredient missing from the recipe is his great upper-body strength, he is sneaky good in that department.

If there is one thing Lin needs to do this summer other than improve his shot beyond the arc is to have Harden teach him the euro step. Apparently Lin did show it a couple o times last year during linsanity but harden does it just as well as Ginobilli.

Do you think he's really 220 pounds? Because the way players seem to bounce off of him, makes you wonder.

The footwork is one thing. Elite is an understatement. Its really special, and few NBA players have possessed the kind of skill he has.

Its how he shows the ball when he's driving in the lane that gets alot of defenders to reach in and grab his arms.

So the combination of the footwork, his core strength to stay in control with contract, and the tricky way he shows the ball away from his body creates legit fouls every time he goes to the bucket.

Initiating the contact, and attacking the rim are right on but I would also add controlled aggression. He is able to recognize when the defendor is off balance and just attacks him making it look like the only way to stop him is by fouling him. This is how he creates the foul. Love it!!!

it's not just his euro-step like move.

It's his changes of speed. He comes in so hard that defenders have to adjust to the speed, and then he slows down on a dime, and can re-accelerate off of one leg to get by them.

Other things he does if the defender puts his arms up, he's going right by them.

If the defender attacks the ball or plays the drive, he goes right into them and shots over.

To defend against Harden you have to be super quick, very strong, and have long arms, but be not so tall that he can just under. Not many people can defend him.

I have a theory, if you watch him attack the basket, he keeps the ball really really low and brings it up into defender's hands when he gets close, hence drawing the foul. I think if defenders keep their hands up and only close in when he brings the ball up, it would bring the foul calls significantly down. just my 2 cents.

220 lbs is ALOT for a player of Harden's height, 6'5. Kobe is 6'6 and only 205 lbs.

Very demanding move on the knees, Jeremy still isn't 100% and doesn't have the 360 spin move at the speed that he had in Linsanity.

harden is strong, plays downhill and he chooses when to attack. never pressured. he sees a defender not in optimal position and goes right at them.

He also makes sure he draws contact to the defender's body on his way before the defender can set his foot.

This is one of the biggest reason why he gets the calls. He does the Kobe contact drawing except he does it when he's euro stepping.

Controlled acceleration mixed in with intelligent split second decisions.

He does look much bigger than when he was in OKC, 220 is plenty but he should be around that and 227.

Would you guys rather have a Prime young Manu or a the James Harden Now? Both are very similar.
