There is no fixed criteria for NBA regular season MVP. But I can think of three. 1. Best overall individual statistics Using whatever formula you want, this is the player with the most impressive overall stats. Its all about individual numbers. Think something like 2015-2016 Steph Curry. 2. Most indispensable player Without this player, his team would perform much worse. He is single-handedly carrying his team on his back to success. Without him, this is probably a bottom team. Think 2006-2007 Lebron James. 3. Most impactful player on a top team This player doesn't necessarily have the best stats, nor is he single-handedly carrying his team on his back. But he is on one of the top teams in the NBA and he is getting credited as the engine of that team's success in making everyone around him play at their best. Think Steve Nash MVPs. If you were a voter, which of the three would be your primary criteria for a first place MVP vote?
mine is whoever has the best combination of stats and winning...you're numbers have to be up there with some of the best and your team has to be up there with some of the best
Whatever the people who have the votes tells me the criteria would be. This year Westbrook is likely going to win the MVP. First, his number is a record number, second, Durant was leaving him alone in OKC, some voters will give him a reward for this.
It seems the voters have spoken. The criteria is the one with the best individual stats followed by the most indispensable player. Being on a top team is not necessary. By these criteria, Westbrook deserved MVP.
Disagree. Harden has better stats than Westbrook. But he does have less rebounds. So it is Tripple double Best individual stats Most indispensable player
MVP is seemingly a measure of value to the NBA vs the value to a player's team irrespective of what the voting is on the face of it.
If MVP is a measure of "value to the NBA" as a whole, then there are a lot more players that should get MVP over Westbrook. He's valuable to the NBA but not more than, say, Lebron or Curry.
MVP is about stats and winning. Harden wasn't screwed over in '15 or '17. Could he have won either year? Sure. But was he screwed over? No. It's unfortunate that other guys or their teams had historical-type seasons the same year.
What? Russ' pursuit of triple doubles led nearly every SportsCenter and NBATV telecast this year. He was easily the most persistent media story all season, heck even in advance of tje season with Durant's departure. By its definition that media focus is value to the NBA.
Easy. 1) Elevate your teammates and make them better than they are 2) Win at a high clip, no lower than a 3 seed in your conference 3) While getting great stats yourself.
