1 Grand parent German + 1 Grand parent Irish = father American 1 Grand parent Bolivian + 1 Grand Parent Italian = mother Bolivian (euro mix)
As far as I know, mostly Western European (given that Germany is placed in Western Europe like normal folks see it ) My great grandfather on my mother's side was a runaway, so I can't really trace farther back than that, but her maiden name was Trapp. I don't know much about my father's lineage, nothing beyond my paternal grandparents being Indiana redneck farmers.
My father's family emigrated here from Wales in the 19th century-- several branches. One of the branches lost 8 daughters to cholera on the wagon ride west. Unbelievable! They settled in Idaho. In 1927 a bunch of them moved to Texas-- my parentless father among them. He came with aunts and uncles. My mother's family was Scotch-Irish but I don't know any details. They settled in Mississippi and later moved on to Houston. I also have a smidgen of Blackfoot Indian blood in my lineage through the Idaho folks. My dad was raised on an Indian reservation outside of Pocatello, Idaho where one of his aunts taught school.
Half Jewish from Prussia...er German/Polish...and Lativia and half Italian. My kids are great mutts adding Danish, Irish and Seminole from my wife (and sorry Chance, but my wife's family bloodline is still visually apparent including the thick asian hair that is found in Native Americans). Chance, I don't understand the hostility. My fathers mother, my grandmother, was a full blooded Mesquakie Indian. My dad is 1/2 and 1/2 and I am 1/4....my kids are 1/8th...etc..etc..etc... Didn't you take biology? DD
according to my ancestry, I'm a slave owning Nazi... my people came from Germany and settled on the Second German Coast of Louisiana, lived on the plantations of southeast Louisiana and moved to the "big city" of New Orleans and adopted the french cajun culture... one of my ancestors was named Rommell, when they got to Louisiana they changed their name to Rome... the ones that stayed in Germany ended up being linked to "The Desert Fox" i love genealogy, my uncle and grandpa did a lot of research and found the registry from the ship our ancestors sailed in on in 1724...
The big waves of Germans came in the late 1800s. Yours must have been among the first. They adopted a "french culture"? I probably wouldn't publicize that too much! Erwin Rommel (at least learn to spell it correctly if you're related to him!!) was an amazing commander in the Afrika Korps.
My mom's side is Russian/Polish, immigrated to the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 20s and stayed there until the 70s. My dad's side is half German/Luxenburgian(sp?) farmers who settled in Rollingstone, Minnesota in the 1800s, half Irish-Scottish immigrants who settled in Connecticut before the Revolutionary War. My dad's family has done so much family tree research that its sorta scary. (And wow the snow is freaking dumping down right now outside my window.)
technically, i never spelled his name. i spelled my family's name, with two l's... Erwin Rommel was born in germany in 1891, long after my family had left... it is conceivable that the second l was dropped by the germans, just like in america they changed their name to Rome... check out "John Law" of the early 1700's. he convinced Germans to come to "New Orleans" soon after it was founded in or around 1718... new orleans is full of french culture, why would I be ashamed to publicize? i consider myself more french than German, my grandparents spoke French with their grandparents on the farms.... of course i dont condone slavery, nazi, or any ism for that matter...
Hmmm, haven't thought about this in awhile, but in descending order, I think I'm: Italian Irish Polish German English I guess I'm just a Euro.
My Mom was born in South Africa...her mom was of British ancestry and her dad of Dutch and French. My dad was born in America...his dad is French (came to America in 20s) and his mom is 2nd gen Irish.
