Simple poll to gauge what this board thinks is the greatest need. Since we only have so many assets to be able to acquire talent with. Some of us think we need to replace Alston with a better starting point guard that can compete effectively with all the PGs in the West. Some of us think we need to replace Battier with a true star that can give us 20 every night. And some of us think we need a big backup center. What's your opinion?

An athletic wing player (Josh Smith would be perfect) and a trade involving T-Back for more talent around Yao.

    That;s my dream offseason.

1.Not just a legit scorer but a person who will attack the basket 60% of the time and draw the defensive foul... High% shots + someone who will get to the free throw line..

2nd. Serious need for a backup center..

If history shows we will have another injury between Tracy or Yao.. past 3 out 4 season.

    Health.

If our two stars aren't healthy, it will be hard to win a championship regardless of any upgrades.

Agree on both your points. I think the rockets need both and it will be hard to fill, but not impossible. Would like to see the core stay together with additions you described. Another year under Adelman's system keeping core chemistry in place and some luck on the health front should net the rockets a 60 win season. Major wholesale changes are not needed. Use expiring contracts, MLE and draft to get what you need.

Rafer is still the weakest link on the team. Also, I would explore the possibility of trading T-Mac.

the more time goes on the more i realize that we need a backup center.

    BAD.

mutombo is great for blocking shots and grabbing boards, but on the offensive end we end up playing 4 on 5. he should be used situationally at this point.

we got out rebounded bad when mutombo was out but had trouble scoring when he was in the lineup.

backup center. rafer proved we can win with him as our point guard. we need insurance for yao and tmac.

I hate the idea of trading battier, he is too big of a defensive asset to give away.
I want him on the Rockets til he retires...

I picked the extra swingman, a player like Mike Miller would help

We need a tall athletic backup 5 who can score, defend, rebound more than anything else. If Yao goes down we should be as competitive as possible.
2nd need Is a tall, athletic 3/2 scorer who can attack and finish around the basket, make free throws and be a secondary shooter. He should be an adequate defender and passer as well.
3rd need is an upgrade at PG.
Any of these goals will be very hard to achieve.
