It seems like we all assumed that the Dwight will opt out, but what if after he test the free agency market he finds out his worth isn't what he thought, and Houston's contract ends up being his best deal? With his name taking a hit recently i can definitely see teams being reluctant to offer Dwight anything near what he has on the table from the Rockets. Kind of scary to think cause that can really throw off our off-season plans
Then tough ****. He does't get to opt out, test the market and opt back in if he doesn't like it. "Oh, the market isn't nearly as strong as we thought. We're gonna opt in to the final year." NOPE.
Doesn't make any financial or common sense for him to "opt in". 1. His new agent makes zero from his current deal. So there's more incentive for his agent to do his job and get his client the most money possible. 2. Even if he can find a 2 year/ $30 million deal it's still better than what he would make next year if he doesn't opt out. It's not better as a per season average by any means but guaranteed money is guaranteed money. Hell, if he can sign a 2 year / $40 million deal with a player option on the 2nd it'd still be a win for Howard. 3. His future is for him to dictate if he's a free agent this year. The moment he says "I've decided to not opt out of my deal and stay in Houston", Morey will be prepared to trade him for a pupu platter, whatever it takes to get rid of him. Hell, he could end up in Philly. So why would Howard want Morey to control his future?
Seriously, we need to stop talking about this, even discussing the possibility of being stuck with Dwight for another year at 22 mil is disgusting. Let's not jinx it.
Dwight's gonna get hurt tomorrow and then will opt in. I mean, [besides eventually losing to Golden State here] it would only cap off this disaster of a season. Murphy's law applies to the 2015-16 Houston Rockets — Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
im not scared of dwight opting in... we could trade his ass and still get something (not much of course) in return.
