Pete's Fine Meats in Houston might carry it or be able to acquire it for you. They list moose as available on their website: http://www.petesfinemeats.net/Meats.html
Never had it but guessing it's similar to elk. Probably lean and gamy. Some of the Native American places in Minneapolis advertise Moose meat tacos. Next time I go buy maybe i'll try it.
Thank you for the replies. I am jealous of those who have tasted this meat. Why is it so hard to find less popular meats? This is an American INJUSTICE.
What about baby seals??? Lol, so... what made you randomly ask about moose? Like were you watching animal planet/rocky & bullwinkle ... And then suddenly thought "I could go for some moose right about now"?? Haha
I had lengua (cow tongue) tacos once on accident at a Mexican dive. I'm sure that's not really a big deal to a lot of people and is pretty common. My friend (deceased since 1999) ordered it in Nacogdoches when we were going to school there. I thought he was just ordering tacos (I was hungover)...so I said "I'll have the same thing". He caught it but didn't tell me until after I ate them. Then, he be like "You know what you ate right?". But, it looked (cooked) and tasted exactly like beef to me...so didn't see the big deal. I probably would not do again just because the raw tongue looks gross and it's not something I like to visualize eating.
Got a deep freeze full of it. Moose are everywhere here. I saw two while out running on a trail last weekend. It has a stronger flavour than beef and is much leaner. I recommend cooking it on low heat in the oven with onions and some wine.
