Is Asik single? BeeBeard has a sister or two he wouldn't mind fixing up with Asik if homey digs on the light skinned African princesses. If Uncle BeeBeard gets some 7 foot tall nephews out of it that wouldn't be so bad either, you know what I'm saying? Teach them how to ball and how to take care of their loving uncle for the rest of his days. Pretend I said that last part with dollar signs in my eyes.
Welcome to the forum Omer! How is your english coming along? Getting better? I thought you would of changed your username from the Bulls forum.
I'm still amazed on how great a rebounder Asik is. Watch him play closely and you'll see he understands exactly where to be for the rebound.
Welcome to the forum exagg. Omer is playing great and I only see him getting better. He is representing Turkey well.
This guy has played so well and he is the core of our defense and you couldn't even think of one good thing to say about him?
Asik he just EATS rebounds he dont just get them he just kills is on the glass and for him having ANY points is big time for the Rockets ..he hands will get better and he will get better
I love Asik! But he needs to learn to catch the ball better and work on his free throws. Those are the glaring mistakes that limit him. In addition, he should also work on setting a better screen and rolling hard as we have two elite pnr guards, this would be tremendous. In terms of what he should add, he should work on a limited jumpshot from about 15 ft. Despite of these holes in his game, he is a monster on defense and a rebound machine. Love him to death.
he is good, but i will take this trade in a heartbeat http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b6l48sl
Asik is a good screener by virtue of his size. His technique and effective however is below average, meaning he sets too many illegal screens, he doesn't quite seal off his man effectively and he doesn't roll quite that adeptly yet. One sure sign is the fact that the defense usually can focus just on our guards disrupting penetration or a quick pass off the pnr with Omer. A great pnr roller usually demands a switch or the roller forces a switch thereby creating a mismatch. It's fortunate that both our guards are elite pnr specialists who get the pass to the roller or goes around the hedge anyways due to their speed or craftiness.
Most of the time, illegal screens is the TO of the ball handler. The screener has no idea when the ball handler will make the move. That is the ball handler drive to the basket when the screen is not ready yet.
Sure, I will. Asik sets terrific screens. The guy is a movable mountain. The opposition runs into him and has to go around the guy, and there's a hell of a lot there to go around. One could come up with some faults in his play, but setting screens isn't one of them, in my opinion. What confuses me a bit is how he has terrific hands when rebounding the ball, and yet can't grab the ball equally well on the offensive end. I realize that offense and defense are different, naturally, but the disparity has to be mental. When he's rebounding, he instinctively knows where the ball is going to be and grabs that sucker. On offense, he appears uncertain, thus the fumbled passes. His mental block continues when he attempts to score around the basket. We've all seen him blow easy layups, time and again, yet effortlessly snatch the rebound out of the air and then make an excellent pass. Go figure! He needs a hell of a lot of offensive coaching and drills to get over his offensive woes. While he'll never be the instinctive scorer we would wish, and he's an instinctive rebounder, passer, defender, I don't see any reason why he can't improve offensively, and we've seen improvement as the season progresses. I love the guy. We've needed a 5 like him for years and I can't believe we actually got Omer. I think he'll be better by season's end, and will be better than that next season. The guy is coachable. God knows, he needs the coaching. I'm surprised that he doesn't block more shots, but part of that is that he takes up so much defensive space around the basket that guys frequently don't give him the chance to block their shots. I love how he defends the basket, and Asik is quick for being such a huge center. Flawed? Yes, but aren't we all?
Omer is a main reason for our success. he anchors our defense which creates our offense. its that simple really
He's like both Yao and Mutombo combined! Yao on the defensive side of the ball, Mutombo on the offensive side The biggest thing to me is simply he's playing MORE than DOUBLE his career minutes per game and so far *knock on wood* he's been durable and reliable. I didnt think he'd be a 35+ MPG player like he started out to be, wouldnt be surprised if he ends up below 30 end of the year but he seems to be handling 30 MPG well enough. He's lessened his fouls by half to stay on the court. That probably means Asik can't be as hardcore on defense like he was as enforcer off the bench with the Bulls. But still Asik can improve on offense to offset that some. His size might give the team a false sense that he can finish at the rim There's just a kind of "calming" presense having a humble hardworking sturdy big man out there doing dirty work with no fuss.
First of all, please give our thanks to the people of your nation, from the people of our nation (ClutchFans). Omer is a gift (at 8 mil per year). Although we should probably be thanking the Bulls too. Omer's an elite rebounder and a great defender in the post and on the PnR. Very smart and rugged. And is much better than advertised on offense.
