    That's actually the same thing I thought of.

    What if the alien is from the same galaxy?

    No, it doesn't fit the pattern with stars. Small stars dominate in number, but here there are many large spheres.

    Depends entirely at which angle and where you are looking, also, what is being depicted....

    Well, the stellar initial mass function is fairly universal, so it doesn't really depend on which angle or where you are looking. If the size of the spheres in the image were the size of the stars, that size distribution would not be representative of the stellar distribution in a vertical slice of a galaxy.

    Unless you have a size baseline for what you are depicting in the image.

    IE tossing out the little fish...

    And uh, isn't the point of this thread...."what comes to mind when you see these images"

    The size baseline is irrelevant. The image has both small and large spheres. If these were stars, the small ones would always dominate the large ones in number. But then again, what do I know? I'm only an astrophysicist.

    Fair enough.
