J.B. Bickerstaff settles on Rockets' rotation at power forward

With a roster suddenly crowded with five power forwards, not including Trevor Ariza and Clint Capela who have combined to start 31 games there this season, Rockets interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff seems to have settled on starting Donatas Motiejunas with Michael Beasley playing off the bench for now. Even that will include some juggling.

Montrezl Harrell checked in early in the first quarter on Wednesday when Motiejunas picked up two quick fouls. Josh Smith has not played since the first half in Chicago on Saturday, sitting out the two games since and Terrence Jones has not been with the team on the road trip after an upper respiratory infection last week. Jones has not played since Feb. 29.

Beasley played nine minutes on Wednesday, scoring eight points.

“Still, he has to get familiar with all our stuff,” Bickerstaff said. “It’s a limited playbook when he goes in now. He’s still learning what we do. But we’re looking for, and you saw it, his ability to score the ball. He can make his free throws. You can isolate him. He can get to the basket, put foul pressure on them. And he can make plays in that situation. He’s only going to get better.”

Nice. You would hope at some point the juggling will stop and some guys will get consistent minutes.

Ima fine with DmO and Beasly and the 4 for the rest of the season and playoffs, throw in trez harrel in spurts and that's a strong position now.

How do you get consistent play without consistent minutes?

Snow having DMO constantly floating around at the 3pt line is just not utilizing him, he needs to get at least 6-10 touches out of the block and the team needs to play inside out through him at times. Its frustrating to watch.

no he doesn't. he hasnt played real basketball in practically over a year and can't even stay on the floor right now. you don't just throw that at him. sounds simple but it just doesn't work that way.

I was excited about that too! We have so many poor free throw shooters it amazes me that it is actually exciting to get another player who can. I liked what I saw from him defensively, and think he can really help this team on defense. Can't wait to see him get more shots, and see what he brings to our 3pt game, which has killed us with such inconsistency.

oh maybe easing him back in and increasing his load as his body responds where he can get into a better flow into the game. something like that. that sounds a little more realistic dont you think.

puahah please. dont even try that route.

I guess you fail to understand when you get the opportunity at some minutes but you aren't contributing and making constant mistakes you don't get rewarded with more minutes. Didn't think that was hard to understand but I guess for some it is.

LMFBO. What sounds realistic to me is utilizing his strengths and not have him out there for his rebounding prowess and to stand at the 3pt line in search of his flow LOL.

Beast should play off the bench. Harden will ball hog.
