What are your Predictions for the Rockets Offseason?

Correction to above :

so the suggested deal is No. 8 + a package to dump Lin (a 25th pick plus another future 25th pick plus maybe cash) + some filler to get Love.

while the Celtics could offer no. 6 plus Sullinger.

The Rox package would be the Asik pick (probably #9, 10, or #11) plus #25, plus Lin, plus 2 future first rounders plus 2 or 3 first round pick swaps for Love, Mbah A Moute, Shved, and Chase bought out of his player option and signed here (or elsewhere) for the MLE.


Now.....Boston can top that deal as far as assets go. However...Boston can't top that deal and still have cap space to add a third superstar in 2015. They'll have to re-up both Rondo and Love at $20 million each. And they'll have to try to ditch Wallace and Green which will require them to have to keep at least two of those first rounders around to buy Wallace and Green off their rosters. (Like Golden State did with Utah concerning Biedrins and Jefferson and Rush??)

So..when you net it down....IF Minny trades Love...it's going to be close....UNLESS Minny decides not to move him on draft night or at least agrees to a deal on draft night....which would be a mistake. Because they won't get more assets for Love at the trade deadline and some suitors will have gone a different direction making the market much more limited for Love.

 

Asik would land you a low 1st rounder or 2nd rounder, if that, in a cap space clearing trade.

He is a very good player but he is owed $15M next season and becomes an unrestricted FA after that. And if HOU is going to require that no $ comes back for him-- thus limiting the field of destination teams-- while his salary is an obstacle between the Rockets and, say, Melo, HOU doesn't exactly have the leverage to drive a hard bargain.

 

Most likely to happen:
1) Sign a nobody as an assistant coach
2) Trade our draft pick and a player for a young buck to Morey's liking (some young buck)
3) trade Asik for a bench warmer
4) sign a veteran center / forward with MLE / exception
5) resign Parsons at 10-11 million a year

What I want to happen:
- sign Hollins
- sign Kyle Lowry
- trade Lin & Asik for draft picks, Horford / Millsap and the other one for a veteran shooter
- sign Morrow
- re-sign Parsons and Cisco

 

There is no way Min will take Lin's contract to trade away Love.

You just need to remember one single fact : when Flip Sanders "agreed" to become the head coach rather than staying in the background, he absolutely know that this team is NOT going to tank mode for the next few years as he can just easily find a cheap placeholder coach to do so.

His first goal is try to convince Love to stay, if that will fail, he will seek for immediate assets to help his team to win.

He put himself on the clock, there is no way they will tank like 76ers or Utah did, hence the chance of them taking Lin in a Love trade is close to zero.

 

I think most people will agree the logic of : the possible trade partner of the Rockets will be a team like 76ers or the Jazz of last season - which they are going to tank and they will take garbage contracts with picks coming their way.

First of all, 76ers looks like they will at least try to win this year with a high pick this year.

Utah may still want to tank, same could be said for Mil, the other 2 possibilities could well be the Knicks and Celtics.

If Melo will not return, its mostly likely they are going to suck, and suck really bad.

If the Celtics will not get Love, nor they will add another quality piece, Rondo will be traded (regardless to Rockets or not) and they will also be sucking big time.

Since both Melo and Rondo are the targets of the FA / trade for the Rockets, I believe it makes more sense that Lin and Asik will be linked to these 2 teams in the trades.

 

Trading Lin to Minny as part of a Love deal is not about Minny tanking. It's about maximizing their asset return while giving them cap space to sign Pau and clearing their cap space to sign Marc Gasol next summer.

 

I think Boston is gonna be our trade partner for Asik and Lin will go to Philly..

 

That's of course if we are able to get that third star..

Leaning towards Lin to lakers/boston will know more after draft night.

 

Min possible trade partners :

GS : probably be offering David Lee + Barnes, could be minor picks added.
Bos : #6 pick + Sullinger + any other young players that Min may like + Celtics has tons of future picks
Hou : #9-12 pick + package to dump Lin + fillers

I don't think even David Khan will choose to trade with the Rockets.

 

I personally think this scenario will be more likely to happen :

- Min will trade Love to either GS or the Bulls.
- Melo will stay in NY.
- Celtics will strike out on Love, they have no choice but to trade away Rondo for whatever best offer they can get. Rockets will package Asik + Lin + 2 picks + cash + fillers for Rondo +Bass. Celtics will tank it to the bottom this year so that they can target for more big fish like Lebron next year.

 

Carl will continue the anti Harden campaign.

Lin fans will will continue to overrate Lin and what he will do when he finally is released from the shackles of McHale and Houston.

Clutchfans in general will continue to overrate how much McHale held/ will hold us back.

Most people trashing "Moreyball/analytics" will continue to have no idea what it is and fail to realize that the 2 teams in the finals are teams that rely heavily on analytics.

Gonna be a good offseason.

 

All the predictions irrespective of whether they happen or not will be futile as long as Morey retains this clueless, incompetent loser head coach who is an embarassment to the Rockets in McHale. My wish list:

1. Use McHale as a poster boy to try and convince Love to come here.
2. As soon as Love comes here. get rid of this gimmick pathetic coach, one of the worst in the NBA.
3. Sign a real basketball coach.
4. Championship

Just to be accurate, you can't use the Room exception and the MLE in the same year.

Rockets send Asik to Philly
Philly sends 13th pick to third team
Rockets send 13th pick, Lin, Motiejunas and/or Jones, and other draft picks/euro stashes to third team for player X.

 

Don't we already have that in Beverley? I'm not saying Chalmers isn't a solid player, but with Beverley on the team he's not really necessary.
