and this is a team that needs OFFENSE.

we're decent on defense but we're in need of a perimeter play maker and ariza is not that dude.

with mcgrady playing you get him scoring on the 2 and trevor focusing his defensive energy on the 3.

This team needs defense too. Otherwise Landry and Scola would start at 4/5.

There is always a balance here. Tmac's offense over Ariza is limited since he only shot 36% himself, but the loss on defensive end is much bigger.

the 36% you must be implying must be from him this year which is ignorant to bring up.

you have to get in a rhythm shooting and 7 minutes is not enough to build up a rhythm shooting.

That is an unknown. You can't just assume he's going to be shooting a lot better, after he failed to do so after Tmac's shooting has been steadily decline for the past few years.

Anyway, from the minutes Tmac played, he was not that better than Ariza overall. I thought he would be, but I was disappointed when I saw the way he played.

vs detriot he had 2 shot attempts

vs denver he had 1 hot attempt

vs. dallas he had 2 shot attempts

vs. okc he had 5 shot attempts

vs. la he had 5 shot attempts

vs. orl he had 4 shot attempts.

your really comparing the percentage of a guy who has had 19 shot attempts over the course of 6 games vs. a guy who had 23 shot attempts in ONE GAME

    More excuses.

5 shots in 7 minutes is a lot more shooting activity than 19 shots in 56 minutes, man.

Face it, Tmac wasn't playing well when he left, he didn't prove to play well in limited minutes once he came back. And his percentage has been at the bottom of NBA shooting guards for several years in a row. And he plays no defense.

Why do you make an assumption he's still as good as he used to be instead of looking at how he played in those minutes?

your choosing certain games to base shooting activity on.

one could copare arizas shooting activity shooting 21 times in 39 minutes vs. mcgradys 4 shots in 8 minutes.

face it mcgrady' a better scorer and play maker than ariza. he wa a better scorer and playmaker than ariza injured so i'd bet moeny he way better than ariza now when healthy.

you make assumptions just like adleman made assumptions about tim hardaway (who went through the same thing as mcgrady) and was wrong.

You are the one who is making assumption. I only saw how Tmac played wan't better than Ariza overall, that's not assumption, it's a fact.

And you are making assumption that Tmac would return to his former form. That's the assumption they made for Grant Hill, Allen Houston etc. More often than not, it won't work.

Even if your assumption becomes right, it still doesn't matter, because Tmac is long gone by then. At this moment, that assumption isn't happening.

From both long term or short term, not play Tmac more makes sense.

no, it's not a fact. it's an opinion. the offense looked better with t-mac running the floor and doing the playmaking and the defense was still fine from what i seen.

like i said before i was a rockets fan before t-mac and will be one after t-mac but the guy playing shooting guard right now is not SHOOTING the ball well and is not a better playmaker and shooting guard than the guy on the bench.

It's a fact. Defense was much worse when Tmac is on the floor. Opponents scored 116.7 points per 100 possesions when Tmac was on the court, 107.3 points when he was off. That's almost 10 points difference per 100 possesion on defense.

And that was mainly against opponents reserves.

you forget some of those possessions were when he was guarding dirk and carmelo (who was the highest scoring guy in the league)

and some of those possessions scola was getting blown by his defender as wel.

Endless excuses. I haven't forgot the possessions he's not guarding anybody either. He plays matador defense is not a secret. Don't be in denial.

We are not comparing Tmac with Scola here. The point is Tmac didn't play as well as you said, he hasn't earned his minutes over Ariza. When you throw in the long term plan, it's obvious who should get the minutes.

What can you gain by play a not fully-recovered Tmac? Nothing. You have a lot to lose but nothing to gain.

Compare Battier's defense with Tmac's defense is like compare Kobe's offense with Ariza's offense.

you bring up a stat that is relevant to TEAM defense and i cant bring up scola who had let his man score on him when it contributes to the overall stat?

    lmfao

back to your question. you play him to see where he stands to see if he's still a good player. if he's still good then you might still have something (remember he said he would resign with the rockets for way less mone). if he's still a good player you have someone that can complement arizas game and someone qualified to play the shooting guard spot WITHOUT giving up key players like lowry, brooks, scla, or landy to bring in someone qualified to play the position.

if he sucks then you can not resign him for next year and ave money to acquire a big name free agent in this upcoming draft.

    win-win

it's not comparing but to show that when some one offensively on fire, good defense can overcome it

LOL. ow you start blaming Tmac's defense on Scola? Ariza played with Scola more than Tmac, Battier played with Scola more than Tmac, yet, their defensive stats is way better than Tmac. Use some logic if you want to compare.

What else do you want? He is proven to be suck when he was on the court. And I'm sure he didn't do that well in practice either, judging by the comments by RA and his teammates.

You keep making assumption that he'd be that much an upgreade while in reality it's not the case.

Tmac said he would like to resign with Rockets, but never said for way less money. And obviously the organization has made up their mind long time ago to get rid of him, if you have paid any attention from various posts at all. He is gone for good, without any question.

So all your assumptions are false. There is nothing to gain by play Tmac here.

Again, that's an false assumption. From the minutes he played, his offense is no longer that "good", passing is the only weapon he has to even considered good.

His defense is piss poor, as we saw. That's a fact.
