Ballhog, or perhaps their skills overlap. Dumbass Disney announcers might be closer than you are to the truth.

Paul George has taken the 2nd most shots of his career, and his efficiency is right in line with his entire career.

This is incorrect. His Field Goal Attempts this year were the 4th most of his career...behind his last 3 full season in Indiana.

As far as his efficiency...yes and no:
    - 2nd best eFG% and TS% only behind last season
    - FG% was only his 4th highest
    - 3 PT% is the best of his career and that's with him taking more 3 pointers than at any other point
    - His ORtg is the highest of his career (probably due to all the threes)
    - His DRtg was better than last year, but was the 2nd worst of his career
    - PER was down significantly and only the 4th best of his career
    - Total Rebound% was way down and was the worst of his career - not too surprising
    - Win Shares is the 4th best of his career, although his Offensive Win Shares are the best of his career

Basically, George had a career (or contract) year shooting 3's and got worse in every category, with the exception of defense...only because his defense was not good at all last season. In fact, George has been coasting on his reputation in regards to defense the last two seasons.

Sidenote: If I were a smart GM, I'd think twice about giving George a max contract next season as his best days may be behind him. You basically have to hope that he can continue shooting at a 40% clip from three, which he's never really even come close to during any other season, to offset his decline in almost every other area.

He is 27 years old, usually the prime of a basketball player.

He never come close to shooting 40%? He shot 39% last season. 37% the season before. He shot 39% in his second year in the NBA.

His "decline" is most likely due to playing along side Westbrook. (Whose rebounding % wouldn't "decline" when Westbrook is boxing you out, night in and night out? :D) What GM wouldn't give a 27-year-old 20-ppg two-way player the max?

MVP pro tip: pass the ball to your teamate and then step off the court to avoid an end of game shot clock violation turnover on your statsheet.
