That's a lot of money just to put a bit of defensive pressure on Harden, provided he can actually come back from the injury.

Ironic that the Mavs are now paying two non-max players the max, while, or their one (arguably) max player took a pay-cut.

Actually, moronic might be the better term

However you slice it, that's a 23% raise for no reason other than loyalty. After an Achilles tear.

$3 million can buy a lot of things!

Ya, but 45 million in San Antonio is like 90 million in most other NBA cities.

Let me understand this. Cuban gave this guy an extra 13 million.....just because?

If I'm Dirk, this is the final indignity. Matthews has been with the organization five minutes and is rewarded for "loyalty"? Meanwhile Dirk takes pay cut after pay cut for the privilege of playing with Chandler Parsons and Zaza Pachulia?

    Are we missing something?

Under the table deals? Hookups all through retirement? I wouldn't be surprised.

Cuban didn't just reward Matthews for staying. The original deal had 2 salary structures, one with deandre and one without. He was always going to get more if deandre didn't come. We're just now finding out how much more. Cuban isn't that stupid.

Maybe Wesley is passing some money to Dirk to equal it out

This is the post that everyone is missing. Looks like they were going to give Matthews more money to play in Dallas initially but Matthews took a paycut so they can offer DJ the max. DJ isn't coming anymore so the Matthews gets his original deal.

    Lets be clear about this.

Cuban did not offer Wes the opportunity to back down form the contract and the eventual $13M raise out of goodness of his heart.

He gave Wes the opportunity to back down hoping that Wes would do it himself and Cuban would be out of that contract without Cuban asking him to do it. Also, Cuban looks great either way (whether Wes stays or leaves). This was a slick attempt to get out of a bad contract since Wes signing means nothing without Jordan. Wes would be stupid to back out of this deal but it was worth an attempt by Cuban. A PR attempt, pretty much.

That raise was another PR move. 13M was an emotional decision to make himself look great after the DAJ fiasco. He basically paid extra to save face.
