Petraeus quits due to extramarital affair.

All of the maggot Republicans in here said he was pulling back because of Benghazi, of course.

Free's him up to testify under oath about Benghazi without fear of reprisal.

Likely someone was threatening to out the affair if he didn't play ball. Nothing else explains the timing.

Yes, that is indeed the only likely scenario.

I don't get all this fuss about leaders having affairs. As long as it is not force, who cares. If his wife wants a divorce and half of his money, that is up to her. To me a leader should be good at doing his jobs and does not need to be a saint.

Not if affair will not threaten his career.

Would you have a leader like FDR who have affairs or G W who never have affairs to lead the country during WWII?

I said if he was weak, meaning would cave in to the threat to his marriage/reputation/standing in his family. And an FDR/Ike was discrete and before the age of the internet.

OK, rumor I just heard on another board is he was at a screening of "Argo" with his private stash when the Benghazi attack occurred.

I don't understand why he is resigning. Didn't anyone learn anything from Bill Clinton. First you deny it. Then when when someone comes forward with evidence, you admit it and tell the nation how very very sorry you are. Then you go on with your career as if nothing ever happened.

Or the timing is that he didn't want to be a political football for conspiracy theorists in the middle of an election.

Huh? That makes no sense. It is after the election, not before.. and it gives the President time to find a replacement.
