NFL teams tend to lead players out to pasture as they hit 30 years of age nowadays
Texans are looking towards replacing Jonathan Joseph at seasons end. Not sure if Kevin Johnson
has cut the mustard in the eyes of Texans. Bringing in guys to mentor?? Lane is 27 while Joseph is 33 yrs old.

No 1st or 2nd rounders in 17/18 draft to improve team. O-line will get much attention in off season.
But money will be limited as Clowney might get extension from JJos/Cushing cap hit casualties (money).

That’s pretty high. Kevin Jackson is ranked 113th. Kareem and J Jo not far behind. Lane is immediately our stud on defense.

Made that all up but it makes sense

JJo is actually ranked #13 by pff. I don’t know how.

But yeah, Kareem, KJ, Marcus Williams and Lane all ranked in the #90-100+. They get burned year after year. Guy making the decision to keep them needs to bounce.

    • The sixth-year cornerback was draftedby the Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft, and has appeared for the team every season since. Lane’s strongest year came in 2014, where ranked 24th of 85 cornerbacks with a PFF overall grade of 79.0, and allowedjust 0.78 yards per cover snap, the ninth best mark among 140 cornerbacks with at least 100 coverage snaps.
    • 2016 was Lane’s worst year in coverage. He allowed 1.26 yards per coverage snap and a passer rating of 119.7 on throws into his primary coverage, ranking 64th and 109th of 117 cornerbacks, respectively. Despite struggling in coverage, Lane waseffective against the run, and ended the season with a run stop percentage of 2.7 percent, the league’s second highest mark.
    • Seattle’s willingness to move him suggests they are happy with rookie Shaquill Griffin in a starting role. In his senior season at UCF, Griffin allowed just 39.7 percent of the passes thrown into his coverage to be caught, and he ranked third among 269 college cornerbacks with a PFF overall grade of 88.2.

Jeremy Lane hasn't been great but you can't tell me he's been worse than Johnson. Johnson has been straight up trash, unhealthy, and trash again. I'm still pissed we took him instead of Peters. KJax has been up and down in coverage as well.

So overall, I'm happy we got some new NFL proven talent in a major position of need.

Well, he can't be much worse than what we've been running out there.

Lot of holes to fill but cap space is in decent shape IMO. Clowney deal wouldn't take effect until 2019 which is frees up a lot of potential spending for this summer. Brown and Cushing alone will give us an additional $18M. It'll be interesting to see if we'll be able to cut Newton which would free up another $4M.

We got a 2nd round pick out of this. Yes, it was worth it. We aren't winning the superbowl this year.

To your point, according to Houston Texans Spotrac This Summer:

    O-Line: Chris Clarke UFA
    .............Giacomini UFA
    .............Xavier Su’a-Filo UFA

    .............Mancz RFA

    Def Backs: J. Joseph UFA
    ..................Gilchrist UFA
    ...................Marcus Williams UFA
    ...................Pleasant UFA

    ...................Drummond RFA

    Punter: Lechler UFA

    Line Backers: Brian Peters RFA

Cushing is due $9.7 mil unless he is cut
    J. Joseph makes $6.9 mil this year. Will he re-sign for less money this summer?

Duane Brown due $9.0 mil next yr. I’m guessing Houston is more comfortable paying less to O-linemen over age 30.
