We may have reached the Apocalyptic Scenario with Antibiotics

So is this a legitimate threat or something along the lines of Ebola hysteria? I mean, just like Ebola you've been hearing about it for years and then it becomes a hot topic and people freak out but then eventually it just dies away (no pun intended).

 

Are new antibiotics being developed along with bacteria developing immunity? Or have we pretty much reached the limit of new medicines we can throw at these bacteria?

Such passive-aggressive anger. Maybe we can just goad you a little bit, wait for the rage to boil over, and watch you go postal. That murderous anger is clearly simmering just below the surface.

 

In the last 9 years, the only drugs I've taken are anti-histamines (twice) and ibuprofen after having my wisdom teeth pulled. Nothing at all in like 5-6 years though.

FWIW, I can't remember the last time I was ever really sick, except for minor colds, allergies. I'd like to think it's worked for me.

 

I used to get eye infections a lot and worried about drug resistance to erythromycin. I had drops from other varieties, but never used it because it was plain stupid to even with resistance.

Blindness from red eye aint fun but those days may be a coming.

Its really depressing as a student of economics to see people with such flatly stupid views that don't have any basis in reality.

 

Well, it's pretty depressing to me that you think being an economics student makes you an environmental expert.

If you want to disagree, fine. But to say it has no basis in reality? There are many,many people who are real experts on the subject who disagree with you.

 

So...

Perhaps you mean that a decrease in world population would have disastrous implications for our current global economy, which is predicated on growth. That would be a sensible statement, compared to what you typed.

If the capacity in your studies is between 10-16 billion, and the population is expected to be 10 billion in 2100, would spreading infectious disease and knowledge to impoverished parts of the world instead of resource allocation really be the way to go? Seems like a lazy response to me.
