I don't see why it matters ... of course one position is going to score more than the others. The total is what's important, isn't it?

The problem is that one position is consistently outscored by a
large margin, even though the opponent is just so-so.

I'm not sure that's true, but even if it were - the Rockets were near the very top of the league in defense, yet they barely made the playoffs. This would seem to indicate that they need to improve their OFFENSE, not their defense.

82games.com has a pretty good formula for calculating producion.

    http://www.82games.com/0304HOU5.HTM

We were outperformed the most at the PG position (-2.6) and then at PF (-2.2). We also were also outperformed at SF (-1.1) and our SGs (+0.8) were slightly ahead of the opponents. We had a huge advantage at Center (+6.6).

Pouring money into a PF this season in FA would be unwise. Other than Rasheed Wallace who else could you really see as a starting PF and who deserves a multi year contract?
We'll still be in the same rut we've always been, paying large amounts of to over achieving big men.
No, I think it be best to wait to get a quality starting PF who's young, but developed.

You obviously dont remember when the celtics head coached liked it when cato was in so they could just double team yao and have their defense sag down around him. When padgett started the next game against celtics coach said darn or somethin.

We lost the first game against boston and won the 2nd when cato didnt play. Yao scored 6 in the first game and 21 in the 2nd game.

Your right when we dont need scoring to come from the PF position, but we need the ability to score from that position. Padgett only scored 7 pts in the game, but his ability to shoot meant the celtics couldnt double yao without worrying about the open man.
