    this is now:
Alpha says it will shut 8 mines in W.Va., Va., Pa.

    4:47 p.m. EST, September 18, 2012|VICKI SMITH, Associated Press
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Coal producer Alpha Natural Resources said Tuesday it was cutting production by 16 million tons and eliminating 1,200 jobs companywide, laying off 400 workers immediately by closing mines in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The mine shutdowns start Tuesday, while the rest of the layoffs will be completed by the end of the first quarter after Alpha fulfills current sales obligations, Chief Executive Officer Kevin Crutchfield said. In all, the layoffs amount to nearly a tenth of Alpha's 13,000-person workforce.

    Thanks Obama!

Yeah, it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that coal is far less profitable now because prices have come crashing down in the last year, in large part due to the boom in natural gas.

To throw about the word "war" in such a trivial, political manner marginalizes the sacrifices of our brave troops who are fighting real wars overseas. Shame on you Mitt Romney, and shame on you basso. Your disrespect of our troops is sickening and unamerican.

    that's a half truth

Obama's EPA has been quite proactive about hurting the coal industry.

every heard of CSAPR (which got pimp slapped by the courts) and MATS? please do your homework

Who needs coal when you have Shell Oil and endless crops of mar1juana to make a synthetic oil which burns cleaner 1million X cleaner than oil and coal ever could.

To bad oil lobbyist will pay billions upon billions to stunt the grow of the research to actually produce our nation energy independence.
