William Marsh Rice founded his school for whites only.
The school only integrated in the 1960's when new local darling NASA said they couldn't award grants to a non-integrated university.

Either change the entire branding of the school... the Some-other-person Owls... or change from Owls to something more appropriate, like the Rice Supremacists. :D:eek:

More on topic, the Arlington team could adopt more of a Dungeons and Dragons schtick, and claim they have moved on from the racial history of the law enforcement group. Some doofus could dress like this and run around shagging foul balls:

It's up to the people of Oklahoma what they want to call their team.

Smear piece.... ignores the good they have done and their redeeming qualities as an honorable law agency.

Bottomline (forget about team names for a second): If the Texas Rangers were truly created to take land away from natives and Mexicans, do you think they should be honored as an organization?

It’s an opinion piece. Just like Tom Cotton saying to kill the protestors in the New York Times.

Nobody knows what it means, but it’s provocative. It gets the people going.

    Wapo did not do this?

Why must you always be so dishonest?

Of course they do articles that can be considered smear pieces but I usually call them informative.

So you gonna tell us why you are dishonest in what you post?

I would just point out that a ton of opinion columns in modern American politics are now hard to distinguish from smear pieces.

Ideas are hard. Insults and judgments are pretty easy! Even if you're drinking a lot more during a pandemic. It's like the columns write themselves.

On topic though, maybe given the new "Rangers" stadium, they should be renamed the briquettes.

History is an interesting thing. Provided we don't burn all the books, it eventually finds its way to the surface.

Maybe it's that extra year of taking Texas history, but I still like the ideal of the Rangers even if I can picture the shadier aspects of an armed roving gang in the wild frontiers...

That might be something Asians can get behind...

That's not what they were created for,or at least what their duties ended up being, and seeing as to how we were in a war with the Mexicans, that's a big fat nope.

It seems like they were indeed created to eliminate the Karankawa Indians.

The author is absolutely correct about their history. Texas was a bloody mess for the entirety of its formative history and there were not really any good guys: Whites, Native Americans and Mexicans all did horrible things to each other.
