The WHO has called it a pandemic. I still don't feel a need to panic. I'm continuing life as normal but avoiding contact with old people if I can.
The main difference on this is not having immunity/vaccines in place and overrunning the health system like we're seeing in Italy. You're right that every year flu is a danger (especially to elder/immunocompromised part of the population) but this just adds to it. The other main concern is that we really don't know yet if this will go away during the warmer spring/summer weather (like what happens with flu). If it goes away/limits spread in warmer weather then it will not be as bad, but if it doesn't this could be a months long thing (or longer). I think for anyone older age or health issues it's best to stay out of heavily populated areas (I mean the cdc is saying this). this is way past just simple fearmongering, they wouldn't cancel major events for a flu, It's more so because of how contagious this is and that in cases where you're not having symptoms but you're spreading it. Like in a normal influenza it is roughly R0 of 1.3, and this new coronavirus strain is showing an R0 of 3-5+, if those numbers hold up, 5 is in smallpox range. Meaning it's a lot higher rate/ease of spread. Again, my main concern is not so much myself but the long incubation of this/not having symptoms and giving it to older relatives/anyone for that matter. Like if this were a normal influenza, you'd know you're sick and avoid people, with this though, you can be spreading it to people without knowing for ~1-14 days and that's if you even ever get full symptoms. Lastly this is a new virus and the flu has been around (like we're nearing end of season, as this is just ramping up). I feel most of the population will be fine, and sure we can cite other dangerous things that can kill us, but this just adds to it. Lastly, we also don't know the long-term ramifications. For example in some sars cases people didn't fully recover (had long term health issues). So to put it in perspective let's say 33% got it in the US so 100 mil and then 20% were severe cases 1 in 5, and 5% died of the 20% that's a decent size number for the US, but now with the 1 in 5 having serious issues, let's say they have life long lung issues of all age ranges, we now just impacted a good percentage of the population that will have to be getting extra health care. Obviously these are all examples and I'm not saying this, but the rate this is spreading without some change in course it will make our normal flu season look like nothing. Basically we should look at Italy as 2 weeks ahead of the US and Germany 1 week. In the next 1-2+ weeks we will know exactly what we're in for. And again, I'm not saying this is the apocalypse but it has the potential to Make things very difficult for the next several months. I'm really hoping the weather works but we'll see.
Appreciate this, and you are right; this is serious for older folks with health issues. But how is this different from all of the others? And, while I love your research, it really just proves my point. That said, always research.
Spain topped 3,000 cases today and had 282 a week ago. I'm definitely not taking my cruise from Barcelona next month. The worst part is that I only get credit for $800 of it. I'd rather get my money back. I guess I'll prob have to wait a week or two when the numbers go over 10,000, to try and get my deposit back So far, it is non-refundable, according to booking.com. Ugh.
Right? Guess I'll have to wait until all travel into Spain is shut down. As for the cruise, they are offering $200 cabin credit if I don't cancel. Sure, I'll have free drinks with that Coronavirus please. Give me a break.
I canceled my cruise out of Galveston, just didn't know what would happen. But, was able to get everything except the deposit back ($300). Figured if everything dies down, there will likely be spots on that ship available (maybe at a reduced rate), and we could decide to go later. The $300 I still have has a credit to future cruises (through May 2021). I doubt they'll start giving all refunds though, because they'd certainly fail as a business (unless a bail out if foreseen).
Had both tonight's date and tomorrow's date cancel. First one already took me off Bumble, but responded so... Meh. Friday's asked for a rain check. Tuesday's date seemed promising, but 3 kids... What started off as a great dating month has come to a screeching halt due to this crap.
You aren't the first to stalk me, but you are the most well known. What gets your rocks off by being a nuisance? Do I mean that much to you? Again, I don't randomly respond to your comments. You've shown to do this incessantly. Get an actual life, dude. This internet persona? At the end of the day, what can you do with it? Hell, even My FFB persona got me on the radio with Cleverley Stone and Matt Jackson. I even had a 610 radio promo based on my call in. (but with CS I actually did a 1 hour in studio sit in. didn't pay me anything. didn't care)
So I bought a treadmill on Amazon and the delivery guy coming this Saturday...won't lie I feel uncomfortable about that...should I cancel the order?
