That 5lbs dumbbell is to strengthen the Infraspinatus,Supraspinatus and Teres minor muscle for Yao's shoulder,no need for heavy weights when you do that kind of lift.
The OP's link didn't work for me. Here's a link from Youtube: <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/spn80UnEaGw&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/spn80UnEaGw&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> The tennis-throwing looked pretty intense. And yeah, I lol'ed at the tiny weights.
I'm guessing Hand-Eye Coordination. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. Oh wait, I meant, if you can catch a tennis ball, you can catch a basketball.
Yao always looks so uncomfortable around fans and the cheerleaders. But when around players he knows he acts more smooth. Can't wait for this guy to get back on the court.
It's to improve his grip, catching the ball, and prevent him from being stripped. Jordan Hill could really benefit from doing the same work, as his hands aren't very good. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2322434&postcount=32
Also...I love how Yao has that hair fringe thing going on. This is the equivalent to the black suited Spider-Man. Watch out when he comes back next season....pure badassery.
