Saw him play today against Wofford. He barely passed the ball. He ONLY passed when he was double covered. He also was obviously trying to score the ball to run up his own stats. Example: Third to last possession of the game. 3 on 1 fast break and he is leading it. He runs into defender...gets pushed back and shoots a jumper. It was the last possession of the game 10 seconds left and BYU had obviously won. He runs to his teammate demands the ball and heaves a three...airballing. The crowd booed him rightfully. Pass.
I guess you missed the beginning when he passed the ball around instead of coming out shooting. when he ran into the defender he looked like he was expecting a foul, so he went for the and 1. I pretty much agree that's he's definitely better than Redick. He handles the ball better and actually has a one on one game. However,i dont expect him ot be an all-star. Maybe if he was taller, faster, or played defense. He does appear to have a strong work ethic, so i think at worst he's a solid back up. Best case scenario would be 15-17 ppg starter.
I live in oz and saw him play for the first time today (other than the highlight videos)..... am definitely not a basketball expert but I thought his passing game was quite good (think he racked up 7-8 assists in this game) and he showed some decent pace/dribbling skills in blowing past his man a few times.... what did strike me though is his defence was pretty much non-existant....I almost wonder whether he has been told to save himself on defence because he is so important to the offence (does that happen?)....I hope this is the case because if he was actually trying to defend then he has definite problems. I'd like to think that he could defend iif he put his mind to it....but I don't know.

I also saw Jimmer play a full game for the first time last night. I admit it was a little jarring to see a college player demand the ball and take so many shots, even when in tough situations. It definitely looked ugly at times. But, that's the way it goes when you're just that much better offensively than anyone else on your team. There's a choice to be made between letting his teammates initiate offense and more than likely lose the game, or for him to run the show every time down and likely win. I think the choice is obvious, even if it doesn't look all that pretty sometimes. As for his NBA prospects, I think he'll be alright. Most people say he's slow (for a PG), but so is a guy like Steve Nash. For both players it's their crafty/shifty dribbling styles that allow them to get separation or get by their defender, not their straight-line speed.
Well he already plays like a NBA player (takes lots of shots). He should fit right in with all the other chuckers in the NBA lol

Yeah.. And it's cool that most of the video is just the sound of the cheering fans with no commentators. Like being at the game. zzpot (just one) Puff (this time)
I think his defense will be worse than Nash at the NBA level, but we'll see. I'm reminded, in an odd way, of Adam Morrison -- I know it's a totally different position and height and game, but this: a lot of jump-shooting where you wonder if he'll be able to get the separation he needs at the NBA level. Morrison never could get the separation at the NBA level, and even in college, he was usually just a few hands-lengths away from getting every shot blocked. Jimmer at least looks to get a *little* more separation than Morrison did in college. Will be interesting to see him in the sweet 16. Gonzaga was not very good this year, so that wasn't much of a test.
Have you seen the comparisons in this thread? JJ Redick and Steve Novak. Then I have heard him compared to Adam Morrison a few times. None of those guys have the same game as Jimmer yet people keep comparing him to them. None of those guys were PG's like Jimmer was. Now he may not pan out in the NBA and he may pan out in the NBA but he won't be any of those 3.
Morrison scored a very similar amount of points on a similar volume of shots, but let's try this one: Eddie House, Arizona State. Still their career point leader. Once scored 61 in a game. Could truly fill it up and was a volume shooter on an otherwise non-spectacular team. We've seen how Eddie panned out in the NBA. Okay guy off the bench. That wouldn't be bad for Jimmer. It looks to me like Jimmer may already be a more natural passer than House though.
Man that kid can shoot. Its amazing that he doesnt need to be set to consistently hit that shot at ridiculous range. I would definately not complain if we drafted him.
That's the most reasonable comparison I've seen... House does have a quicker trigger, but Jimmer's a better passer and ball handler.
Spoiler I agree with you that Jimmer's NBA career is far from surefire, but let's try to avoid the 'he hasn't really been tested' or 'their schedule is weak' thing.
Um, okay. Want to compare Fredette's 2010-2011 schedule to House's schedule in his last year of college, ya know, in the Pac 10? My point was, having not had many chances to observe Jimmer, he had good separation for his shots against Gonzaga, but Gonzaga I actually know, since I get to watch them off an on when they visit the Bay Area, and they weren't very good this year. But yes, tell me how good Jimmer's separation was when they played, say, Kansas this year. I eagerly await your next utterance, er, facepalm graphic.
Looks like Curry from a few years back. If I were a potential superstar player, like say Austin Rivers. I'd definitely go somewhere like Davidson or Gonzaga where I could just shoot it anytime I want instead of Duke or UNC where the system holds me down.
Damn those Carolina and Duke programs winning championships instead of giving their players 30 shots a game.
