Hell yeah he's athletic, but not a physical specimen by any means. He's long, quick and can jump. But he has such a high center gravity, combined with his poor skill sets (including dribbling) he can't really create and separate from defenders that well.
I have always felt that good athletes could dribble the ball somewhat competently. He is big, can jump, and run, but I am not sure that definitely equates to athleticism. NBA players that I think of as "athletic" are ones that can handle the ball and create separation as well as do the things Ariza does.
It is so simple. He needs to start dribbling like McGrady who is built similarly. McGrady dribbles low. His hips and knees are bent.
They have similar body types, but I think t-mac is much more athletic. Ariza is never gonna be a good dribbler, he is just gonna have to help the team in other ways.
What does handles have to do with being athletic? They're plenty of athletic guys out there that have horrible handles.
Yeah, battier must be teaching him well. Didn't look fooled by most of roy's moves to get an open shot. His length and athleticism should make it real easy for him to be a good defender in the league. He just needs to be quicker with his feet and he'll be fine.
I think handles have to do with being athletic. I think athleticism encompasses more than just running and jumping. Some degree of coordination has to exist. Who is a good athlete who cannot dribble and/or drive to the basket?
I thought it was 2 travels? Pretty sure he takes 4 steps! But since he dunked it, let it go I guess? Nice aggression getting to the hoop though!
This wasn't a travel, or at least it wasn't a blatant travel. You don't start counting steps until the player has terminated his dribble. A player can take as many steps as he wants as long as he hasn't picked up his dribble yet.
someone told me the league has changed the rules and now 3-step moves are legal just like the international rules? (and i think we shall give a high five to our own rookie, and not be too piggy. kg travels 7 out of 10 times in his moves, but he's still one of a kind.)
chase budinger always had the hops! he was just holding out on us in the preseason! dude even shocked me with that dunk a little bit, because all i seen him do was do soft layups when driving to the basket!.
Chase can straight up mash... watch him in the mcdonald's all-american dunk contest. C bud single handedly disproves the theory that "white men can't jump."
Ariza isn't a total dud with the ball. Also, you can have good coordination and sit on your fat butt all day. Ball handling has nothing to do with athleticism. Steve Nash isn't very athletic.
They didn't change the travel rule, just the wording of it. Before it said A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may use a two-count rhythm in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball. Now it says two steps in place of a two-count rythm. Stern says its the same rule and will be enforced the same way.
