i was astonished that he was slamming it down like that, he is certainly further than i though, cant run yet im sure, but hes back in the gym that's good news
Man, this group is tough. I'd like to check y'alls credentials to see all the Personal Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Specialists, and Strength Coaches in here. Many of y'all think he's overdoing, and maybe that workload would be overdoing it for some of y'all who've never done anything exertive in your life. Let me see if I can word this properly; Yao is not bulking up, he's not doing super-heavy weights where he's going to be extra heavy and stiff. He's building lean muscle which is going to burn tons of fat and keep his body in great shape. Granted, building lean muscle will add more lbs to his body, but it's the catch 22. Do you go much lighter and become Shawn Bradley and put your arms, back, hips, and legs at risk of injury? Yao is doing fully body workouts and he is going to be in great shape. I'd venture to say the shape he will be in at the beginning of the season will be better than it actually needs to be since he probably won't go over 28 mins a game. To improve his cardio, he's probably going to have to become best friends with an elipitical and stationary bike throughout the season. A lot of those exercises are to get him to trust that foot again. Remember, he was non-weightbearing for a while to let the bone heal. Now he's got to get the motor control back to before he was injured. The muscles in his foot have atrophied, so he's got to get them strong again so they can help protect the repaired bone. Basically at this point in time, the bone should be all healed up. He's probably gotten an MRI and X-Ray every 2 weeks just to see the progress. The fact that he's been released to resume this strenuous of workouts is a GOOD sign that things are progressing nicely. Yao's foot will be in fine shape, the Rockets strength and conditioning team will get his whole body ready and Yao will be good to go. I just hope that they've made advancements to the cushion in his shoes since his last injury. I know they shaved down some bone to take disperse the pressure to his entire foot, but anything to take pressure off the repaired bone is a plus.
for what? Not shrinking yao down to a 6'10 center? any man that size who's got a post game and is active is going to pack on significant leg size. Look at him his rookie year, he already had tree trunks. He isn't athletic, so he can't be like olajuwon, garnett, or even Abdul-Jabbar. . He isn't powerful so he can't be Shaq like. And he isn't a scrub like muresan or bradley. He also isnt just defensive minded like Eaton, so the guy naturally will need more leg strength than most.
Yao's dedication is awesome. I wish he could drop about 40 lbs before he comes back...I don't care if he loses a little strength in the process...it's all a matter of longevity now...the less weight his feet have to handle, the better.
A lot of people seem to think dropping pounds makes sense, but it may actually be a bad thing for yao. His upper body weight is not in excess, so that should be left alone. his legs are huge and that would seem like the logical place to shed some pounds, but it isnt either. The muscle there protects his knee joint and ankle joint. It would be easy for his knee or ankle to buckle when he jumps or gets pushed if he didnt have enough strength there. i know we all hate his foot issues and this surgery, but it's probably the best scenario, as oppose to him dealing with continous ligament tears in the knee or ankle.
This is great to see, if anything we all know Yao's work ethic is off the charts, I just can't wait to see him on the court again.
People fail to realize that Yao's surgery future proofs him from that same type of injury. Here's the difference dummy, Yao had an unnaturally high arch in his foot that causes the stress fracture to his lower shin area, that arch has be permanently lowered. Imagine if you had to ball while wearing a woman's high heal on your pivot foot. This changes everything and it will show in Yao's longevity for seasons to come.
why are no videos of T-mac passing? No, kidding. In all seriousness... I must ask: why were there no videos of T-mac rehabbing last year?
Credentials dont mean **** anymore. My focus is on the medical field (money) and my heart and passion is weight training and basketball. And when Im not on clutchfans im on the theverticalsummit.com. My gym has the dumbest trainers. How your a trainer but you use to be a stripper? How are you a trainer but your overweight?
Beacon of health? Did I say he was? I quoted the poster because he said Yao was giving his all, so we need to stop critiquing him; not his fault his body keeps betraying him. The best we can do now is wait.
Cheke, I see what you are saying and you are correct in a sense. I do my own research on health topics and I can think logically with my degrees in Nutrition and Kinesiology. While working out, I overhear what some trainers are saying and I'm thinking "what the hell?" and these are people with certifications. Which is why when an online community (Clutchfans) full of people who's only lifting during the week might be the 6 pack of beer they lift to put in their shopping cart and all of the sudden they are going to start second-guessing and attacking strength coaches who had to work their way up to where they are and are probably pulling 6 figure salaries and are considered experts in their profession, I'm going to call them out. I understand their concern because we all love Yao and our Rockets, but their passion doesn't make them all of a sudden experts on the subject of rehab and strength training.
On those standing up drills at 2:35, he looks like he is progressing really well with his foot. Come back strong Yao, keep it up!!!
