The way his legend in this board made him out to be, its like he was the guard equivalent to Scola. So what went wrong with him?
He had his chance and wasn't patient enough to play. The times he did he was hot garbage. Nobody cares about him anymore.
Didn't play well. Didn't get the time he wanted. Moped about it. Didn't want to return to the Rockets. Was traded. Chose not to stay with the Spurs.

DaDakota talked him up too much and the pressure got to him. He looked good in the World Championships didnt he... Something terribly amiss with the attitude. To this day many would say he would of flourished under another coach.
He never had a fair chance and he decided he rather take his ball and go home. He might have been a scrub or superstar no one will ever know.
Haha I love how we don't have a clue to how he would pan out. Scrub or Superstar or on the ends of the spectrum, disregarding that of course...he had too big of an ego to be playing for the rockets anyways. "Tmac Of Greece"
It was not a choice by V-Span not to stay with the Spurs. The only reason the Spurs traded for him (giving the Rockets Luis Scola in the process) was because V-Span had ALREADY decided to waive the final two seasons of his contract in order to be released, a rarity in today's NBA landscape. The Spurs used the salary savings (along with those obtained by the Rockets also having to take back Jackie Butler's contract in the Scola deal) to sneak back below the luxury tax threshold, saving the Spurs several millions of dollars.
Thanks for the clarification. I could have sworn I read that the Spurs publicly said they'd like him to play for them, but maybe they meant sometime in the future. Do the Spurs still own his rights?
Nope. When he was waived, the Spurs lost his rights. I think the Spurs may have just said those things publicly to avoid any impropriety of intentionally trading for a player who has agreed to waive the remaining years on his contract. I don't exactly know where the league office would come down on something like that. Personally, I think V-Span has burnt his NBA bridges.
Thank you, Dei, for giving us the ONLY good thing to come out of The Greek fiasco. DD's "fanboy" obsession with the guy not withstanding, he (The Greek) did nothing while he was here except produce endless threads similar to this one (or much, much worse, with all due respect to the OP). As an initial supporter of The Greek, I hang my head in abject self-disgust for being taken for a ride. At least mine wasn't remotely as long as DaDakota's.
You read it from one of the fake user accounts that Kill Bill/rockets dynasty/etc used to use to spread false info.
I thought Van Gundy was the wrong coach for him to develop under. I saw flashes of his potential but JVG didnt have the patience for him.
