The specifics of Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian‘s four-year extension announced on January 13 were revealed in the agenda book for the UT Board of Regents’ February 21 meeting. Sarkisian will receive a raise from $5.8 million to $10.3 million for the 2024 season. His salary will increase by $100,000 every year until 2030, the final year of the contract.

Sarkisian can receive up to $1.85 million annually in performance bonuses. He’ll receive $150,000 if he reaches the conference championship game and another $150,000 if he wins the game. He’ll get another $100,000 for making a bowl, with escalators up for every new level his team makes. That includes a bonus of up to $250,000 for making the College Football Playoff, up to $500,000 for making the CFP quarterfinal, up to $750,000 for making the CFP semifinal, up to $1,000,000 for making the national championship game, and his bonus total will be $1.25 million should the Longhorns win it all.

Hard to imagine they'd make this type of investment for volleyball (as good as they have been) and other non-revenue sports, especially since some of them already have dedicated facilities.

$10.3 million to coach. And lets guy an extra $100,000 bonus if you manage to go 6-6 and make a bowl game (or even 5-7!).

Not sure if I’ll get over what the opportunity Beard squandered away

Next time he goes 6-6 or 5-7 he'll be fired.

    And yes...still get paid

    Yep,

Was building a dynasty and it will take 4-5 years to get back to where they were. Now they're a nice team who might even make the sweet 16, but they were a team to be feared with Beard, now not so much.

Beard's got his Ole Miss team winning 19 games and doesn't have his guys in place yet. Great HC, not so great of a person, I'm glad he got a 2nd chance though.

Crazy how Beard was able to pick up a new job right away. Not even a whole season off.

This tells us that maybe CDC may have jumped the gun and the allegations weren't as bad as they appeared to be.

I'm thinking the opposite. Texas is a big brand, so we just have a lot more media pressure and standards. And currently, in today's hyper-competitive sports world, organizations are willing to give second chances if they outweigh the public backlash.

Kind of like the Rockets with KPJ or the Astros with Osuna.

I'll always fall back on the fact that the responding officer saw enough evidence in that moment to book and charge Beard. This wasn't a call to a random house; it was the Tarrytown home of one of the most prominent people in Austin. If you're that cop, you know who you're dealing with and the risk to your own career if you get it wrong.

I don't put much stock in the victim's recanting; that happens all the time in domestic violence cases and does nothing to change my thoughts above.

Ole Miss is also a shameless program so it's no surprise they took a chance on Beard so quickly after the arrest.

Man, it’s impressive how cringey all of your takes are. No matter what the issue, you always seem to default to the most morally reprehensible stance. Part of me wonders if you’re just trolling. If you don’t like how UT tries to keep its hands clean then you don’t have to be a fan. You’re not an alum. You can just root for your own school.

Just saying we don't know what happened lead you to post this.

You're right, I didn't graduate from UT but my brother did and I've been a life long Horns fan.

BTW, my post wasn't advocating for keeping Beard. Just that because Ole Miss hired him so soon brings into question what really happened. These are my thoughts on this situation. Obviously you think differently and that's for me. We really aren't even disagreeing on this.

I hope the Texans pick up Xavier. That would be a great new resource for Stroud.
