It's not the cornerbacks, and it's not the defensive line. We are the walking wounded at safety and are putting linebackers out of position. The main issues in general relate to scheme, fundamentals, and alignment. Fundamentals: missed tackles, can't set the edge on QB runs, can't play the ball in the air Scheme: Blitzes are extremely predictable and very late, defensive ends and linebackers are covering wide receivers down the field, insistence on playing simple zone coverage in short yardage situations that can be read by the opposing QB/OC Alignment: Defensive backs are put all over the place and don't know any one position well, nothing is disguised
Some MAJOR problems on defense. The tackling has been such a back breaker in particular. Another defensive player decommitted today in 4* CB Josh Eaton.
...and our punter hurt his shoulder on the fake he converted for a 1st down Sam is not having one of his better games, to say the least
Patterson's defense whipped Herman's offense Their DL whipped our OL Their DB whipped our WR Ehlinger turned it over 3 times 2-5 red zone TDs; over 85% for the season True freshman DB who's only playing due to injuries can't find the ball and gives up a huge play to set up the TD that iced the game, after giving up an almost identical big play to the same receiver earlier to set up a TD
Our defense is so bad. The secondary is so banged up that we always drop 8 in coverage, but there's no pass rush so QBs have all day to throw.
I'm numb at this point. A decade of this has really beaten me down, but I keep watching like an addict. So much has gone wrong this season, but defense that is this bad should have coaches afraid for their jobs. We'll keep losing recruits, losing games and perpetuating this cycle.
4 picks for Sam. Fitting ending. This game was on the offense. Didn't think I'd say that this season.
This year's Texas team has regressed from last year's squad. We'll still win 7-8 games and make an okay-ish bowl. Bleh. I'm now on board with those who want Todd Orlando fired.
I can give some leeway to all the young guys in the secondary, but that doesn't excuse the total lack of a pass rush. Mitchell did get loose on a few blitzes today, which was nice.
I don't get it. If I'm ranking the best college teams in Texas. I guess Baylor, TCU, and SMU would have to come before Texas(or A&M). The teams the Horns didn't think were fit to be part of the Big12 are all better. The teams the Horns and Aggies both out recruit are better teams. Baylor and TCU can take 3 star talent and make them into better players. Horns and Aggies take 4 and 5 star talent and they seem to regres. I don't get it.
