Also, 15 years from now, we're going to learn that Mike Leach sent the Kansas coach on a secret mission to UT to screw with their gameplan just for ***** and giggles.
Mack is considered the front runner for the UNC job. I think it would be a good hire for them. I personally think he was a victim of his own success at Texas. http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ges-front-runner-north-carolina-tar-heels-job
It looks like Klingsbury and Chizek are going to be his coordinators. They should be good for 8-9 wins in a season within a couple of years.
Any better sources than Kirk Bohls? From what I can see, everything online linking them to UNC originated with a Bohls tweet from yesterday.
Nope. It would make sense for both Kingsbury and Chizik if the money is right. Chizik gets to coach again with someone he likes and Kingsbury does what he's good at. UNC is all upside situation. UNC never has to be great since they are are basketball school, but they have the resources to be pretty good.
I was just curious (Bohls is not the most reliable prognosticator/insider, I've noticed over the years), and I agree about the potential of the program and that both would be great hires. Very good friend of mine is a hardcore Tar Heel and I'm gonna call him tonight to see what he thinks about all this.
Big time hires if true. Kliff is as good of a OC/QB coach as there is IMO. Chizek is an awesome DC as well and obviously the familiarity.
Based on my very serious survey of 1 UNC grad friend and 7 other grads? who were in his house at the time, they all love that Mack is back. "Hell, we've been horrible since he left, why not try it again?" They love the Kingsbury idea too.
I think combining Mack with good coordinators would work well (it has in the past). I'm skeptical that Kingsbury will go to UNC when he has the pick of the litter. If Mack gets only adequate coordinators, I think he makes UNC a respectable program, but they won't dethrone Clemson or regularly compete for ACC championships.
Ya Mack had an eye for good coordinators. Obviously being at UT had a lot to do with it, but think he'll have some success recruiting them as well. There will be a number of big programs looking for an OC but think year 1 with Mack at UNC presents a very interesting opportunity. The expectations will be reasonable and think Mack/conference style would allow a guy like Kingsbury to do whatever he wants. Compared to USC which essentially is a one year tryout.
