We just lost to a country, that isn't even its own country. We lost to a freaking commonwealth of our own country!!
See, the team is put together with marketing in mind, not basketball. You should always expect to lose when winning is not your first priority.
I am definitely sure if we sent the Detroit Pistons championship team (adding Duncan) to the Olympics they would come back with gold. You wouldn't even second guess that.
Exactly... if that's the case, then the NBA should not be there. Ironically, they'd be better served, "marketing wise," by not LOSING in international competition.
Remember when we were all pissed about Eddie Griffin? And how we missed out on Richard Jefferson. I am glad we did not get him either.
Jason Kidd could make Boki Nachbar look like a HOFer. That's how good he is. And that's how average Richard Jefferson is.
No... they can still win the gold... this is just the round-robin portion of the competition. Then, they seed the top teams in each division, and have a "medal tournament" The lower the seed, the tougher the teams USA will have to play en-route to a gold medal. Of course, if they can't beat Puerto Rico, its all a moot point.
Where was Carmelo Anthony? He is cleary our best shooter! Was Cassell too hurt to be chosen? I mean he's about 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than Marbury. Also, Whats Richard Jefferson doing missing point blank shots?
someone explain the intentional foul rule to me. is it grabbing someone on purpose to stop a fastbreak? because that's all odom did. if that's the case, we should've had about 6 called for us in this game. wow, what an embarrassment. i would like to add richard jefferson to the list of players whose contracts should be voided. that point blank layup he missed that would've cut it to 7 when we had all the momentum in the world (even after arroyo's banked in 3 and the other 3 we were still charging) just killed us and ended the game. is there a box score for the game? marion, marbury, and RJ must've shot a combined 4 for 25 or something. and that's me being nice on that guess. and how the hell was duncan only 4/10 at one point? he only missed 6 shots? he seemed to be missing layups off offensive rebounds like they were going out of style. so, there are 6 teams in our group and only 2 groups right? and i assume 8 teams make it to the medal round since it starts with the quarterfinals. i would actually be happy to face puerto rico again in the medal round (assuming we get there). arroyo's got about as much chance of repeating his performance today as i do of getting laid by tyra banks in the next 5 minutes (if anyone was playground it was arroyo with his banked in ill-advised 3's, crossovers for 20 foot jumpers and all his driving). and while the odds we shoot this bad again are certainly better, i wouldn't put much money on it. even with only the 47th best 3 point shooter in the league we should still be hitting around 30% of our 3's, which would've meant hitting about 8 today. and i don't see how we can miss anymore inside shots. hell, we're good on the inside and we didn't even do that right. how is it possible to pick a team this poor at shooting Stu? while international people shoot better than the nba players, nba players aren't terrible. what's terrible is when you take the 47th best 3 pt shooter from the nba and he's the best on the team. i mean damn. bring me over there or something. plant me in the middle of a zone D so i don't get killed and let me drain 3's all day. 20'6 is like 1 foot farther out than it is at the gym and i could hit that all day. taking our very worst shooters over in the olympics equal stupid. almost equally as stupid is the fact they are shooting about 3 times worse than they should be anyway. horrible horrible game.
seriously. i just don't get it. while he's a bad choice for this team and i hate him, i dare the rockets to give marbury wide open jumper after wide open jumper next time we play the knicks. anyone think we wouldn't get lit up? yet for some reason he can't pull his head out of his ass and start playing like something resembling a basketball player in this tournament (or any of the pre-olympic games). what gives on that front. marion and jefferson bricking jumpers is expected. marbury, who has also been pretty clutch throughout his career, isn't.
What a sad day. Yao Ming gave a disappointing performance in one game and Team USA lost to Pureto Rico in another game. I don't feel like to watch the rest of the Olympic games now.
